If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

Tribal switcheroos don’t always work to the benefit of the game or the drama on Survivor. There are times where a switch can even the playing field making the game far more interesting and there are times like this season on Survivor: Ghost Island where some would argue they can put a particular tribe or alliance at a disadvantage. A disadvantage they cannot overcome no matter what they do.

CATCH UP NOW: Survivor Season 36: Ghost Island, Episode 4: “A Diamond in the Rough”

In a matter of two weeks, viewers have seen Brendon Shapiro and Stephanie Johnson leave. Two players from the original Malolo alliance who appeared to be strong and versatile players until the switcheroo, and really not much else, doomed their games. Two big losses in just two episodes. Something had to give.

Next week, Jeff Probst instructs the tribes to drop their buffs and we get the impression the tribes will be swapped again. Where the chips will fall is anyone’s guess. All fans can hope for is an even distribution of power to make an intriguing season even more intriguing, keeping the curse of the switcheroo at bay.

Week 4: Game Fail – Stephanie Johnson

For Survivor fans this week was a strong case of déjà vu. Last week, Brendan was thrown to the sharks never making any kind of massive blunder. It was the switcheroo that got him. This week, the same fate befell Stephanie. She used every card in her deck; however, there was no beating a house that stacked the deck against her.

Strategic Gameplay

The biggest letdown about Stephanie walking the plank is there was so much unfulfilled potential, so much game left in her. Strategically, she proved to be a shrewd player finding different ways to manipulate different people. She was a Survivor chameleon using her charms as each situation dictated.

Rating: 3.5 / 5

Social Gameplay

To some, she was the cool mom people could confide in. To others, she was the hot single mom, people could flirt with. No matter which side of her came to the forefront, Stephanie used that to bridge the gap with people and gain their confidence.

Rating: 3.5 / 5

Entertainment Value

Her backstory, her passion for the experience and the game, her ability to adapt and evolve, Stephanie had everything going for her until that switch torpedoed her game. Like Brendan, her true Survivor potential was never revealed. We hope she gets a second chance to prove herself.

Final Castaway Rating: 10.5 / 15
