Jonah Hill hosted Saturday Night Live for his fifth time this weekend and was inducted into the semi-exclusive club by Tina Fey, Drew Barrymore and Candice Bergen.

The Five-Timers Club has been a running joke for 28 years on Saturday Night Live now, since Tom Hanks joined in 1990 and was inducted by Steve Martin, Paul Simon and Elliot Gould. The smoking lounge room hasn’t changed much since, and with Jonah Hill as the most recent inductee, it’s great to see SNL keeping this ridiculous tradition alive.

The ever-political SNL only briefly touched on the upcoming midterm elections on November 6, with a pre-tape sketch. Weekend Update didn’t give it any coverage, nor did the usually-political cold open – both aforementioned segments put more attention on the boogeyman immigrant caravan that has many jimmies rustled. Still, the election is important, and the Democrats should have it in the bag… but… ehhhh…

The sketch captures perfectly the lack of confidence progressive Americans seem to have in the Democratic party to secure a win over the constantly fumbling Republican party. It should be a lock, and a lot is riding on the November 6 elections for many people. But it looks like it will be a sleepless night for many Americans on November 5.

Then, there’s the topic of Pete Davidson – he’s been in the news over the past four-or-so months for his explosive relationship with Ariana Grande. Most recently, the topic of them calling off their engagement has been the talk of the tabloids.

But he’s also become a the most meta of punchlines on SNL – during Hill’s monologue, Candice Bergen was drinking “Pete Davidsons” a drink that “has a lot going on but it works”. And when Davidson appeared on Weekend Update to do his standup shtick, he riffed on himself for about a minute. But with all that, he closed his Update  segment with by kindly asking everyone to not ask about his breakup, and wishing Grande all the best. So, we’re done here with that, right? Everyone can stop talking about it now?

Between pretending to be a neurotic six-year-old going-on-55-year-old-Yiddish-man and a floating heading asking his weather reporter girlfriend to marry him in front of a green screen, Jonah Hill brought game to his fifth episode of Saturday Night Live. But, he just couldn’t make it through that screamingly-funny first sketch of the night where he played the aforementioned six-year-old at a restaurant with his baby sitter – he and Leslie Jones had to share a good laugh once he started singing Bob Marley to her.
