This week on Saturday Night Live, Lorne taps two of his favourite people to act as host and musical guest: respectively, Seth Meyers and Paul Simon!

This is a hard-hitting SNL duo – Seth Meyers used to be not only a cast member, not only a Weekend Update anchor, but he was also the head writer of the show for nine years and is literally a professional host for his other job. And Paul Simon is Lorne’s bestie, not to mention he has hosted four times, been musical guest through five decades and cameo’d countless other times. Plus, he and Lorne were at one point across-the-hall neighbours in New York.

So what will an old cast member like Seth Meyers do with his first ever SNL hosting gig? He wasn’t much for sketches in his laters years as Weekend Update host – but that’s hardly unusual. And Meyers didn’t tout many iconic characters or impressions in the earlier years. But he was a long-running head writer (2005 – 2014, the post-1990s renaissance), means that whatever he does in the sketches, they’re going to be good sketches. It just a bit hard to picture Seth Meyers on screen in anything but a suit and a tie – it’s all he wore during his Update years and it’s all he wears on his current late night talk show. So… at least he’ll be mixing it up in some sketches, hopefully.

Yeah, Meyers was really known for his time on Update. He is, after all, the longest tenured Weekend Update anchor, with eight seasons after Tina Fey’s six. He’s also been the only anchor to go solo since Colin Quinn wrapped his time on the gig in 2000. Plus, his new job is basically just an extension of Weekend Update.

So you can expect a big Meyers presence on Update this weekend, with a lot of right-on-target shots at Donald Trump – Saturday Night Live pushes boundaries that Meyers’ other show doesn’t, so he’s probably saved some doozies that he can’t say over there.

And for those of you who know want to know what a Seth Meyers Update is going to be like:

This will also be the last new SNL episode for a few weeks at least, so expect a few Halloween sketches. Perhaps a spooky-scary music short? Or a good old costume party sketch with some outlandish misunderstanding or culturally relevant costume. Or, or, maybe the return of David S. Pumpkins?! One can only dream…

With heavyweights Seth Meyers and Paul Simon leading SNL this weekend, it will be one that you would regret missing. So, don’t miss it.
