SNL: Halsey to Pull Host/Musical Guest Combo Duty
SNL: Halsey to Pull Host/Musical Guest Combo Duty
Singer songwriter Halsey is next up this season to host and perform as musical guest on Saturday Night Live.
The millennial pop sensation Halsey has rocketed to the top of everyone’s playlists over the past five years – starting out in 2014, Halsey has already received numerous accolades for her singing, her music and her performing. Put them all together, and you have a knock-out Saturday Night Live host just waiting to make her SNL sketch debut.
Halsey isn’t a newbie to SNL – she appeared January 2018 in the Sam Rockwell-hosted episode as the musical guest, performing Bad At Love, and Him & I (with G-Eazy). She created a spectacle, that’s for sure, with beautiful light displays, mesmerizing dancing and of course her amazing music.
Double duty isn’t uncommon – it’s been done by so many, including Miley Cyrus, Paul Simon, Queen Latifah and J-Lo – but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. SNL is a lot of work throughout the week for each individual involved: the writers, the performers, set, make-up, costume. etc. etc., so the guest host to also be preparing for a couple of performances is more than enough. That, combined with the notion that this is Halsey’s first hosting gig, means that she’s got work cut out for her. But you know Lorne Michaels: he won’t put somebody out on his stage if he doesn’t have confidence that they’ll give a good show. What they do while they’re on stage is another matter, but everyone goes in to SNL with the confidence of Lorne Michaels – the man who has revived Saturday Night Live from death in someone else’s hands too many times to count.
Halsey has proven herself over and over again as a musician. But this “hosting SNL” gig goes on a short list of acting roles she’s had. With a few voice roles here and there and a few more as herself, Halsey is probably the most inexperienced non-politician to ever host Saturday Night Live. Which means when she kills it out there, it’s going to be that much more impressive.
To reiterate: Lorne doesn’t set people up for failure.
