Saturday Night Live Returns With Host Rachel Brosnahan
The holidays are officially over – Saturday Night Live returns with new episodes this weekend!
It’s been a long, dark winter, but the darkness is behind. Yes, the winter solstice has passed, but more importantly the Saturday Night Live winter hiatus is almost over! The cold darkness of not having new episodes of good sketch comedy is coming to an end as Saturday Night Live returns live this Saturday, January 19.
What might have made the long, cold winter even longer and colder for Canada’s southern neighbours is the ongoing government shut down, brought into effect by, surprise guess who, President Donald Trump. Twenty-four days (and counting) long, the President has held his country’s government, and its functionality, hostage while he tries to smoke out the Democrats into giving him a whole lot of money for a very large, very long slab of concrete at the American-Mexican border. This is pretty much bad news any way you shake it, and you can be sure that SNL is going to mock him, relentlessly, over this huge blunder. It is the longest US Government shutdown ever – Trump just can’t stop breaking all the bad records. So, look forward to the first face you see at 11.30 Saturday being Alec Baldwin’s scrunched up mug for the cold open. He never misses an opportunity to belittle the blowhard-in-chief.
First timer host Rachel Brosnahan will be hosting the first 2019 episode of Saturday Night Live. Brosnahan has been all over the screen over the past ten years – horror, comedy, drama, thriller, she’s pretty much done it all. Throw in a long running stint on House of Cards and her hit television series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (for which she’s won a lot of awards), you have an actor who’s made to host Saturday Night Live. Mrs. Maisel is funny as heck, so she’s got comedy down, and Brosnahan isn’t a stranger to live theatre either. Plus, SNL doesn’t take their premiers lightly – they bring out the guests they know can do a good job, so the fact that they’re got a first-timer opening up 2019 shows that she’s got what it takes.
Assisting Brosnahan in the guesting department is rock band Greta Van Fleet in their first SNL appearance as well.
