Phoebe Waller-Bridge hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, with musical guest Taylor Swift and a cameo from Matthew Broderick!

It was an episode to remember. Trump impeachment talks are in full swing so the Trump impeachment jokes were flying about, and the episode was hosted by the biggest winner in comedy television right now. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, your host for this weekend, cleaned up at the Emmys for her show Fleabag, which she created, writes and stars in.

Waller-Bridge monologued about her work, for a bit. On Killing Eve, she mused on how deep into psychopathy she researched, and noted “It’s a great time to be a psychopath right now.” On Fleabag, she mused on everyone’s genitals. A lot.

It is an incredibly funny monologue from an incredibly funny and talented performer! What a great show for Waller-Bridge’s first time hosting, hopefully she’ll be around again soon.

While we didn’t see Trump himself – Alec Baldwin was off for the week – we got a good dose of his cronies. Mike Pence called an impeachment strategy meeting with Rudy Giuliani, Bill Barr, and Mike Pompeo – played by Matthew Broderick!

Over the past four or so years (well, basically since the 2016 Presidential election race), Saturday Night Live has been stunt-casting political figures hard. Matthew Broderick is the newest in a long line of celebrities that have had recurring cameos as politicians: Larry David, Melissa McCarthy, Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, John Goodman, Maya Rudolph… the list goes on. And of course you have Alec Baldwin, who’s really more of a part-time cast member at this point.

So here’s to Saturday Night Live filling your screen with recognizable faces to get you through the trying Trump administration. This week, Matthew Broderick. Next week, who knows! There are still plenty of Democratic debates left, and so many candidates to cast!

That’s it for Saturday Night Live this week! Stay tuned next week for David Harbour and Camila Cabello!
