Saturday Night Live returns with new content this weekend after a well deserved break, with host Jason Bateman and musical guest Morgan Wallen.

Now, The Story Of The One Host Who Had To Keep It All Together

Jason Bateman is this week’s host, which is good because the show’s been lacking a smarmy know-it-all who’s usually wrong since Dennis Miller was on Weekend Update.

But Bateman still knows where the mark is when it comes to being funny. And even though these days he’s only really known for being a morally depraved  self-righteous man engaged in shady business dealings for the good of his family (Ozark), or a morally depraved  self-righteous man engaged in shady business dealings for the good of his family (Arrested Development).

But he’s now on SNL, where he’ll get to show a whole range of different characters, from sketch to sketch. He’s charming. He’s got timing. And he knows how to work an audience. It’s in his blood. What with having been a child actor and all.

Plus, he’s hosted the show before! Here’s his monologue from way back in 2005. Sadly, it didn’t age well. Amy Poehler is no longer married to Will Arnett, Bateman was way wrong about Arrested Development’s ratings and Michael Jackson jokes aren’t funny anymore for so many reasons.

But hey, at the time, it was spot on.

Morgan Wallen’s Second Chance

Here’s one lucky duck. You might remember the kerfuffle around Morgan Wallen being uninvited to SNL when he was caught out partying with potential COVID carriers and not distancing or wearing a mask. A big no-no for SNL, who gets to operate because they have strict COVID-19 restrictions. But SNL is showing some… uncharacteristically quick grace, and not even two months later he’s been invited back to perform.
