Next up centre stage at 30 Rock: Idris Elba! For the first time ever, Idris Elba will host Saturday Night Live, with musical guest Khalid!

So, first thing, is that this guy has been in everything. If you don’t know who he is by now, you have two options: you can learn by binge-watching The Wire and Luther, and finishing that off with The Dark Tower and Molly’s Game, or you can remain ignorant and miss out, and continue living a not-quite-full life. Seriously, this guy’s been working so much that he’s even fought alongside The Avengers.

Not only that, but Elba is an undefeated kickboxing champion (sure, it’s easy to remain undefeated if you only ever had one match, but still), is a part-time DJ under the name Big Driis the Londoner, and has to keep on denying that he’ll be the next James Bond, all the while making social media posts hinting that he will be the next Bond. Which is it, Elba?

Oh, and this guy has been named more than once “Sexiest Man” by People magazine.

He’s got a filmography as long as he is tall (he’s pretty tall), and yet, very little of it can be called comedy. So why Saturday Night Live for Elba? He wouldn’t be the first pure dramatic actor to hit the stage at SNL, and he wouldn’t be the first to do an incredible job, either (that list is also as long as he is tall). Elba does have his first comedy series premiering next week – so perhaps his dive into live sketch comedy isn’t dipping his toe in the water after all. Idris Elba doesn’t need to prove anything to his fans, but he’s going to anyways. So whether or not you’re a fan now (you should be by the way), you’ll get to sample his rarely-seen comedy chops on Saturday, and then for sure you’ll be a fan – because even if he doesn’t have the chops, he’s just the most charming individual so you’ll swoon either way.

Backing up Elba will be musical guest Khalid, who will likely be performing his recently released single Talk and one more song from his upcoming release Free Spirit.
