Halsey Shouts Her Excitement to Host Saturday Night Live
This weekend, pop sensation Halsey pulled double duty on Saturday Night Live as host and musical guest – and it was wonderful!
Halsey made her SNL-hosting debut this weekend and couldn’t have been more excited. It’s cliche at this point in SNL‘s life because almost everyone says it in their monologue, but Halsey went on about how big of a dream this was for her, since she was a kid. She also couldn’t help but big up the women of the show from that time – she didn’t say any names, but given her age (only 24 and already doing the double gig at SNL) she’s probably referring to the early 2000s greats, like Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph.
Halsey was truly incredible. She was funny, on point, and she painted a freaking picture during her second song “Eastside”.
It was always known that Halsey is an amazing musical performer. But this past weekend she proved to everybody that she has a knack for all kinds of performance. Well, at least music and live sketch comedy. But that’s saying a lot because live sketch comedy isn’t an easy thing – Oscar winners come on the show and flub their lines, so good for Halsey!
Unfortunately the show wasn’t good for everyone – it looks like the cue card person wasn’t fully on their game:
Saturday Night Live gave a post-State of the Union shout out to the women in Congress, with a “Charlie’s Angels” style rundown of the important women who are currently serving in congress, like Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Maxine Waters. Oh, and a special voice appearance from the worst Charlie ever conceivable, Donald Trump (with an actual special voice appearance from Alec Baldwin).
All considered, this episode is easily one of the best of the season. Everyone was at the top of their game (except whoever was doing the cue cards), the sketches were fresh and clever and Halsey surprised us all with hilarious and flawless performances. Saturday Night Live can only hope to top this episode for the remainder of the season – and hopefully they do!
