Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Rock Send Off SNL’s 46th Season

This weekend, Saturday Night Live wrapped its 46th season with Anya Taylor-Joy as host and a guest appearance from Chris Rock!

Anya Taylor-Joy’s Monologue

First-time host Anya Taylor-Joy gave a brief but stunning monologue to close off the season. Excited as all the rest to be there, Taylor-Joy delivered her short-but-sweet monologue to truly kick-off the finale episode of season 46. Because it’s been a heck of a year with a lot of great hosts and sketches. And The Queen’s Gambit star had some advice for herself that she took directly from her series – and from the bottle.

Sounds like an entertaining way to approach chess, and hosting a live variety/comedy show, to say the least. But if you’ve ever heard about what SNL was like in the 1980s, you know that a fist full of pill before going on stage isn’t a new concept there.

The rest of Anya Taylor-Joy’s first episode was one of the best of the season. The whole cast was there, for the first time this season. And they all exuded a sense of excitement and relief. It’s been a hard year for SNL, and the cast and crew deserves a nice summer break to prepare for season 47!

The Cast and Chris Rock Send Off Season 46

In a sense of soothing poetic symmetry, Chris Rock appeared in the show’s cold open. Chris Rock hosted SNL‘s season 46 premier, so he kind of acted as a stable book end for this year.

The cast got to share their experience with this season during the cold open. This season had SNL‘s biggest cast ever, all of whom appeared in the cold open (except Michael Che and Colin Jost, who rarely appear outside of Weekend Update).

It was an informative, sincere and funny way to address their audience. They should take note, because this kind of thing really landed, and with such a tight-knit cast, having them all together is just magic.

There will be more Saturday Night Live to come next autumn! So set your calendars, and follow any news that comes over the next few months! Until then you can enjoy rewatching the great season 46 all over again, Saturday nights at 11.30 et/pt on Global!

Saturday Night Live can be streamed live and On Demand on the new Global TV App and on STACKTV. Global is also available through all major TV service providers.
