Survivor: Ghost Island Scoop – Week 9 Recap: Winners, Losers, Top Moments

John Powell – GobalTV.com
It was the right move at the wrong time. Targeting power players must be done if you want a chance at building a resume and ultimately winning the Survivor: Ghost Island game. However, timing isn’t everything. You need the numbers to be on your side. You need the tribal politics to be on your side. Maybe more importantly, you need luck to be on your side.
CATCH UP NOW: Survivor: Ghost Island – Season 36, Episode 9: “It’s Like The Perfect Crime”
As Naunihal Singh wrote, the best way to overthrow any kind of leadership is to see the situation as one “in which each individual has an incentive to do what others are doing, and therefore each individual’s choices are based on his or her beliefs about the likely actions of others.” An impatient Desiree Afuye didn’t understand that. She didn’t secure the support of others before she launched her coup attempt. She failed so miserably that she was the one voted out for betraying the Naviti Alliance when there were still plenty of Malolo targets sitting on the chopping block.
If she had just used that time to whisper the right things in the right ears, let those thoughts percolate, she could have convinced the others to eliminate the power players and things might have turned out very differently for her and her Survivor game.

Week 9: Game Fail – Desiree Afuye
We pretty much hashed out Desiree’s fatal mistake above. Desiree though had all the makings of a real Survivor star. Her social game was a bit rough around the edges but she made do. She had the ability to win challenges handily and had a shrewd strategic mind. She blunted all of those qualities though because she didn’t have any restraint to wield those qualities effectively.
Strategic Gameplay
The writing was on the wall for Desiree when only she and Angela Perkins voted for Libby Vincek while everyone else booted Chris Noble. She had the right ideas on how to move forward. She couldn’t execute those plans effectively.
Rating: 2.5 / 5
Social Gameplay
She started out decently but when push came to shove, her own alliance sided against her and voted her out.
Rating: 2.5 / 5
Entertainment Value
Desiree showed how far she was willing to go to win Survivor: Ghost Island when she searched Stephanie Johnson‘s bag for a hidden immunity idol. She had the tools just not the knowledge to use them correctly in the game. She was just too rash and not disciplined enough to be subtle and sharp.
Rating: 3.5 / 5
Final Castaway Rating: 8.5 / 15
Week 9 : Powell’s Picks
Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.
Bronze Amateur: Donathan Hurley
He swiped the hidden immunity idol right out from under Michael Yerger’s nose. Sure, it was a legit move but it is just another strategy that may rub people the wrong way considering how Donathan portrays himself and how he actually plays the game.
Silver Amateur: Kellyn Bechtold
I am willing to bet that Domenick Abbate will not take kindly being strong-armed like that. Since her place in the game wasn’t on the line she should have been more diplomatic with the finish line in sight.
Gold Amateur: Desiree Afuye
She couldn’t stay cool.
Bronze MVP: Donathan Hurley
He may take some heat for playing the naïve dude and then being cutthroat but he has stepped up his game.
Silver MVP: Domenick Abbate
He took immediate action and trusted all of the right people.
Gold MVP: Laurel Johnson
She put herself on the line, didn’t back down and handled the situation with great composure and confidence.
