John Powell – GlobalTV.com

I concur with Survivor host and producer Jeff Probst. I have never witnessed such a madhouse Tribal Council in which alliances were being broken and established on the fly like they were last night.

At the centre of the firestorm was Julia Carter. She took the leadership position in the new alliance that saw Eric head off to Extinction Island last week. Just one week later and she cannot bite her tongue, cannot take a step back and because of that she took the brunt of all of the dissension and bitterness. That one bad decision ended in a one-way ticket to Extinction Island.

The entire tribe turned on Julia, except for Aurora. Even her alliance pals Victoria and Gavin voted her out. There isn’t any greater condemnation in Survivor than that.

What is fantastic for us about the situation at Vata is the game is still in flux with the players still jockeying for the best position they can find as the end game draws closer. Within those large groups though are smaller alliances like David and Rick, Lauren and Kelley, Victoria and Gavin, which in my mind will play a major role in how this season and this Survivor game concludes. These twosomes seem unbreakable with each person relying and trusting the other to such a great degree. It is these couples that viewers need to look out for. Those who aren’t paired up could find themselves out sooner rather than later.

What about those Exiles? This is by no means a fact but the rumour mill has it that the last Edge of Extinction competition will occur on Day 36 and the final Tribal Council is just three days later. If this is true, do we think anyone would vote for a Survivor to win if they stayed out of the endgame for that long? Stay tuned.

Week 8: Game Fail – Julia Carter

If you are going to paint a bulls-eye on your head expect someone to take a shot at you. Julia stepped forward assuming the role of leader. At Tribal Council she pushed that role even further making herself an easy target that nobody could ignore, even her own partners in the game.

Strategic Gameplay

Until recently, we didn’t hear much from Julia. She was another Kama member who avoided Tribal Council much like the Florida Panthers have the NHL playoffs. When the tribes merged and there was work to be done, Julia stepped forward as a mover and a shaker, a key member of an alliance with Victoria and Gavin.

Rating: 3.5 / 5

Social Gameplay

We don’t have too much to go on. She had her close allies although everyone turned on her in a blink of an eye at Tribal Council.

Rating: 2 / 5

Entertainment Value

Where have you been, Julia? She was the type of dynamic player who rattles cages, shakes things up and lights a fire under others. The last few episodes were exciting but that is all we have…the last few episodes of Julia.

Rating: 2 / 5

Final Castaway Rating: 7.5 / 15

Week 8: Powell’s Picks

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

Bronze Amateur: Julie Rosenberg

I feel for her. When the pressure and paranoia rises you cannot help but to miss the people you trust the most. Her outbursts though could paint her as an erratic player which is not a good thing in the final phase of Survivor.

Silver Amateur: Aurora McCreary

She not only sparked the whole revolt, she was left out of the loop again.

Gold Amateurs: Julia Carter

She sunk her own battleship.

Bronze MVP: David Wright

He mended fences with Rick and worked hard at Tribal Council.

Silver MVP:
Julie Rosenberg

The first to jump ship, really propel things at Tribal Council.

Gold MVP: Rick Devens

He made the most of an opportunity that was presented to him at Tribal Council. He protected his partner with the idol.
