You cannot trick the Survivor gods. They will always get their pound of flesh. Even though the producers switched up the tribes on last night’s episode the gods wouldn’t be denied.

You could hear them laughing off in the distance as Wendy Diaz stayed on Manu, the entire Manu Tribe went to the new Lesu Tribe, Lesu lost the Immunity Challenge and Rick Devens was voted out.

The not-so new tribes are:

Manu: Victoria Baamonde, Aubry Bracco, Wendy Diaz, Eric Hafemann and Gavin Whitson.

Kama: Joe Anglim, Julia Carter, Ron Clark, Aurora McCreary and Julie Rosenberg.

Lesu: Dan “Wardog” DaSilva, Lauren O’Connell, Kelley Wentworth and David Wright.

Although the tribe name has changed the curse of Manu lives on with the first four boots all being members of the original Manu Tribe. Rick was the latest to head off to Extinction Island although the only blunder he made, if you could call it that, was he aligned himself with David. Wardog sided with Kelley and Lauren so Rick and David were outnumbered at Tribal Council.

While the castaways still in the game had to take stock of their new tribes, the denizens of Extinction Island were learning that in order to carry on they had to bury their hatchets, work together. Although Keith Sowell and Reem Daly wanted to ostracize Chris Underwood because he voted them out, his fishing skills made them reconsider things. It appears that on Extinction Island keeping your enemies closer could be the key to your very survival. Will the dynamic change when Rick arrives? Stay tuned.

Week 4: Game Fail – Rick Devens

survivor-Rick-Devens-season-38-edge-of-extinction-cast

It shouldn’t have been a massive surprise to Rick or David that Wardog would vote against them. He is the one who sunk their plans to get rid of Wentworth just a little while ago. Rick wasn’t a bad player, Wardog just opted for who he thought would be better dance partners.

Strategic Gameplay

Rick and David were working quite well together and if they had bought enough time to reach the merger they might have been a strong twosome.

Rating: 3 / 5

Social Gameplay

A big personality generating big laughs, most people were fond of Rick which was illustrated when the others had to vote him out. He perhaps should have spread himself out more in order to amplify the connections he had with the others.

Rating: 2.5 / 5

Entertainment Value

It was far too soon for Rick to leave. With a career in broadcasting he knew what makes “good television”. His self-deprecating humour and massive persona will be missed as Survivor: Edge of Extinction continues.

Rating: 4 / 5

Final Castaway Rating: 9.5 / 15

Week 4: Powell’s Picks

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

survivor-joe-anglim-season-38-edge-of-extinction-cast

Bronze Amateur: Joe Anglim

Once again, he’s trusting all the wrong people.

survivor-reem-daly-season-38-edge-of-extinction-cast

Silver Amateur: Reem Daly

She hasn’t learned anything from her boot. She is continuing to speak her mind far too often as well as playing too personally.

survivor-wendy-diaz-season-38-edge-of-extinction-cast

Gold Amateur: Wendy Diaz

By releasing the chickens she causes more mistrust and resentment.

survivor-julia-carter-season-38-edge-of-extinction-cast

Bronze MVP: Julia Carter and Ron Clark

While Julia and Ron may have acted unethically depending on where you stand, they showed what lengths they were willing to go to in order to get Joe out.

survivor-dan-wardog-dasilva-season-38-edge-of-extinction-cast

Silver MVP: Dan “Wardog” DaSilva

He was the deciding vote, picked a side and gave Rick the boot without any serious repercussions to his game.

survivor-lauren-oconnell-season-38-edge-of-extinction-cast

Gold MVP: Lauren O’Connell

Despite being an easy out because of her health she convinced Wardog to keep her. She didn’t even have to use her Hidden Immunity Idol to secure her safety.
