Shields, they come in all shapes and sizes. Being a social, athletic or strategic threat can work to your advantage if you can position yourself appropriately in Survivor. Time is always crucial commodity and being used as a shield can buy you more of it. More time to plan. More time to prove your worth. More time to build those relationships which could make the difference between addressing the final Tribal Council or addressing what you want for dinner at the Survivor base camp.

The shield defense had a big impact on tonight’s broadcast. It was part of the reason why everyone’s favourite kid brother, Keith Sowell, was voted off. In the face off between Keith versus Kelley Wentworth, Kelley’s worth as a shield and as a force in the challenges rescued her from the chopping block. Keith’s poor challenge performances did nothing to bolster his case to stay considering that the Manu Tribe hasn’t won a challenge, either Reward or Immunity, this season.

Extinction Island is proving to be the inhospitable environment it was billed as. Every day living will probably improve as more castaways arrive but the experience already has Reem Daly thinking about raising the white flag. The arrival of Keith, if he decides to carry on in the game, probably won’t improve the quality of life on Extinction Island too much so we are probably in for some more delicious pain and suffering.

Muhahaha!

Week 2: Game Fail – Keith Sowell

Keith gave Survivor his all. It just wasn’t enough. Keith wasn’t a challenge beast. What made that fact stand out even more than it might have on another tribe was that Manu cannot put together a win no matter what the challenge may be. Keith was as much of a weak player as he was a victim of circumstance.

Strategic Gameplay

Keith sided with the wrong people. He also didn’t move much beyond that circle. He did try to course correct though planting the seeds which would grow into a scheme to dump Reem.

Rating: 2 / 5

Social Gameplay

It says something that Keith had some sway with people who weren’t even necessarily on his side as the tribe fractured. People trusted him.

Rating: 3 / 5

Entertainment Value

How could you not root for the peppy Keith? He has so much passion for the game as well as the experience. His attitude and point of view were honest and fresh.

Final Castaway Rating: 8 / 15

Week 2: Powell’s Picks

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

survivor-cast-Julie-Rosenberg-season-38-edge-of-extinction

Bronze Amateur: Julie Rosenberg

She is already pushing an agenda with players who don’t see the game the same way. She could talk and strategize her way right out of the game.

survivor-cast-Aubry-Bracco-season-38-edge-of-extinction

Silver Amateur: Aubry Bracco

Her transparent gameplay has already increased the target on her back.

survivor-cast-Keith-Sowell-season-38-edge-of-extinction

Gold Amateur: Keith Sowell

He was too focused with his time and his bonds at the start of the game.

survivor-cast-Dan-Wardog-DaSilva-season-38-edge-of-extinction

Bronze MVP: The alliances of Dan “Wardog” DaSilva and Chris Underwood, David Wright and Rick Devens

Both alliances are working well, working strong so very quickly.

survivor-cast-Wendy-Diaz-season-38-edge-of-extinction

Silver MVP: Wendy Diaz

Her damage control and pivoting are part of the reason she is still on the island.

survivor-cast-David-Wright-season-38-edge-of-extinction

Gold MVP: David Wright

Just like last week, he is playing a smart, decisive game making all the right strategic decisions. He might outlast all of the returning players if nothing else.
