Survivor: Edge of Extinction Scoop – Week 1 Recap: Winners, Losers, Top Moments

If the late B.B. Andersen from the first season of Survivor were still with us today he might have some sympathy for Reem Daly. Anderson’s extreme work ethic and prickly attitude made him a target on the Pagong Tribe but what really pushed his fellow castaways over the edge was when he washed his clothes with the tribe’s drinking water. The laundry blunder wasn’t the real reason he was voted out but it was the final straw that broke the backs of Gervase, Colleen, Gretchen, Jenna, Joel and Ramona.

Reem’s Survivor journey thus far is very much the same. She too had a brashness that didn’t sit well with the Manu Tribe and her handling of other people’s clothing was just one step too far with the group of struggling strangers.

Standing out for any reason whatsoever is not what you want to do during the first few weeks of the Survivor game when people are still finding their common ground, still gelling as a team and getting to know one another. Since there aren’t any deep social or strategic dynamics at play, people are looking for any reason, any reason at all, to vote someone out. Messing with people’s clothes or washing your laundry in the tribe’s drinking water are justifiable reasons to feed someone to the sharks.

During “It Smells Like Success” we were introduced to the much lauded Extinction Island. Reem’s walk of shame after being voted out led to a crossroads. She could either leave the game or she could continue on with the chance to return to the game at an undisclosed time. So, it was off to the deserted Extinction Island for Reem where her adventure will continue next week as we witness her struggling and presumably grumbling to herself and to the palm trees and to the crabs and to the driftwood and to the fruit bats and to the…well, you get the idea.

Week 1: Game Fail – Reem Daly

Wearing your heart on your sleeve can be a good thing or bad thing in life. On one hand, people know how you are feeling and where they stand with you at all times. On the other hand, people know how you are feeling and where they stand with you at all times. As evidenced by her reactions at camp and Tribal Council, Reem cannot mask her true feelings, she doesn’t have a filter on what she says or what she does. Unless she learns to harness her emotions her second chance may result in another short stay on the island.

Strategic Gameplay

As soon as she came under fire Reem was quick to take action. The way she went about trying to shift the target though wasn’t the most tactful or cautious way to do so. She actually made things worse for herself. Even her pal Keith Sowell immediately booked on her once he saw Momzilla breathing fire.

Social Gameplay

Reem made very few friends at Manu. Lashing out at everyone instead mitigating the social damage that was done doesn’t bode well for her possible return to the game. Reem needs to swallow her pride, mend those fences on Extinction Island.

Entertainment Value

Watching Reem take the wheel so that she could steer her Survivor game into brick wall was like watching a car crash in slow motion. The worst part about the ride was just when you think things were over Reem backed up the car driving it into the wall again and again. Reem was fun while she lasted.
