This ain’t peanuts – the 39th President of the United States of America Jimmy Carter will be Colbert’s guest next Friday on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

This won’t be the first time Stephen Colbert has interviewed Jimmy Carter, but it will be the first time Stephen Colbert interviews Jimmy Carter – Carter appeared on Stephen’s old show, where Stephen interviewed him in character as the far-right conservative pundit that just happens to share his name.

That’s right, Jimmy Carter is a pretty decent dude. As President for one term, 1977 to 1981 (See? Have hope, even sane people can only be in office for one term), Jimmy Carter has dedicated his retirement from politics to humanitarian efforts, including being a considerable contribution to the Habitat For Humanity foundation, and being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for “his decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”

Stephen is no stranger to former presidents. Of the living Presidents, he’s had had the good ones already: Barack Obama (who was, more impressively, President at the time) and Bill Clinton have guested on to The Late Show. It’s worth noting that George W. Bush has never appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert despite doing the talk-show circuit just last year. Colbert probably sandbagged the chance of ever interviewing that President due to his 2006 Correspondents Dinner stunt, and, oh, about four seasons of targeting Bush on every episode of Colbert’s previous show. But, having Jimmy Carter on the show puts him over the half-way mark for interviewing  living Presidents – let’s not forget the boring interview he had with at-the-time Republican candidate for the nominee Donald Trump.

So the 93-year-old former President will have a lot to say on current events – he’s not much for media exposure these days, so his appearance on The Late Show is an indication that he’s going to take some political stands. First, just to get it out of the way, out of all the former Presidents, Jimmy Carter has had the nicest things to say about Trump. So Stephen’s definitely going to grill him on that. Second, he’s recently been on-the-record about being in support of opening talks with Kim Jong-un – even if the person who’ll be doing the talking is Trump. There’s another hot topic to look forward to: He’ll probably be pretty vocal about gun control – it’s been a very hot topic over the past month, and Carter is very pro gun-control. You may recall that he was petitioning to have assault rifles banned way back in 1994. That’s kind of discouraging, isn’t it?

So be sure to tune in and watch former President Jimmy Carter on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, airing Friday March 30 at 11.35 et/pt on Global, and watch the latest episodes online here on GlobalTV.com!
