Survivor: Winners at War Scoop – Week 5 Recap: Winners, Losers, Top Moments

Rob Mariano certainly has the gift of gab. It is what has made him a Survivor All-Star. It is what has helped him to win the game.
His famous last words this episode though came back to haunt him.
“It is never good to lose Immunity on Survivor but in retrospect it is not that big of a deal because we’ve got expendable members here. We’ve got people we can get rid of and preserve our overall numbers. All we have to decide is which of them,” said Boston Rob after the new Yara Tribe lost the Immunity Challenge.
Little did Rob know that he was the most expendable member as he was unanimously voted out, sent to the Edge of Extinction to join his wife Amber.
The new Yara Tribe consisted of Rob, Adam, Ben, Sarah and Sophie. While the former Sele Tribe men outnumbered the former Dakal Tribe women three to two, Adam and Ben had no faith in Rob based on their time on Sele.
Rob’s “buddy system” plan of the trio not leaving camp until Tribal Council so therefore there would be no chance Sophie or Sarah could throw a wrench into their plans didn’t factor in one important point. Everyone at Yara had already planned to target Rob before he had even hatched his scheme.
Things also got uncomfortable for Wendell and Michelle who were swapped onto the same tribe as they apparently dated briefly off the island. Since I don’t immerse myself in the reality show gossip on social media this was news to me but here is an update.
Michelle did take to Twitter to apologize for making the details of their relationship public on the show.
HBD to the GOAT @wendellholland sorry in advance for Wednesday 💕 pic.twitter.com/pZ0T8QnB8P

For his part, Wendell accepted the apology.
Apology accepted. Love ya. ❤️ https://t.co/BfLg0R268m

Whew! Now the order is restored to the universe the other two new tribes are:
The new Dakal is: Jeremy, Sandra, Kim, Denise and Tony. Jeremy and Denise are the two former Sele members. Sandra, Kim and Tony are original Dakal.
The new Sele is: Michelle, Wendell, Yul, Parvati and Nick. Nick, Yul, Wendell are former Dakal. Michelle and Parvati are original Sele.
Like Yara will the new Dakal and Sele cross tribal lines or will they stick with their original factions?
Stay tuned.

Week 5: Game Fail – Rob Mariano
What people forget is that Boston Rob played three times before he won Redemption Island. His Survivor resume certainly has its ups and downs. His obsession with having total control over everything and everyone was his downfall once again.
Strategic Gameplay
Rob’s idea of an old school alliance was a good one but perhaps he should have extended things beyond that. Everyone agreeing to empty their bags at Tribal Council due to his say-so was a brilliant Boston Rob move as was having everyone stay at camp so no deals could be made. Rob’s plans were exceptional. His core strategy though was weak.
Rating: 4 / 5
Social Gameplay
Rob really did rub some players the wrong way. Was it because they wanted to be in control or were they uncomfortable with him ruling the game? His ability to manipulate the entire Sele Tribe showed how charismatic his personality is.
Rating: 3.5 / 5
Entertainment Value
No matter if he wins or he loses, Boston Rob always sparks drama and always plays an aggressive game. He is a Survivor icon, whether you like him or not. He has added another dimension to any season he has participated in.
Rating: 5 / 5
Final Castaway Rating: 13 / 15
Week 5: Powell’s Picks
Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.
Bronze Amateur: Sandra Diaz-Twine
Revealing your alliance’s plans in front of everyone is an amateur move. Sandra tried to recover but it was too little, too late.
Silver Amateur: Michele Fitzgerald and Wendell Holland
No matter their issues, they need to put their past behind them if the new Sele is going to move forward and avoid Tribal Council.
Gold Amateur: Rob Mariano
His inability to surrender control sent him to the Edge of Extinction.
Bronze MVP: Kim Spradlin-Wolfe
She has maneuvered herself into prime position at Dakal.
Silver MVP: Sophie Clarke and Sarah Lacina
She not only found the Hidden Immunity Idol but she and Sarah fought to stay in the game despite being outnumbered.
Gold MVPs: The Yara Tribe
They put aside their differences to get rid of a massive threat. Where they go from here though is anyone’s guess.
