All these years later, infamous Survivor legacies are still having a huge impact on today’s game.

“I just know he is going to go on an Immunity streak like Colby.”

“She reminds me of Sandra or Cirie.”

“He’s playing like Russell.”

Those identifiable, quantifiable Survivor player templates and the gameplay, the moves associated with them have made an impression not only on the game but the perceptions of present day players.

Being compared to the delightfully devious Parvati Shallow, winner of Survivor: Micronesia: Fans vs. Favorites, can be both a honour and a curse. For Molly Byman, that correlation stoked fear in the other females on her tribe and led to her early departure. Ironically, in her cast bio Molly compared herself Parvati writing: “She was charming as she was being manipulative. She allowed herself to be grouped into a “dumb girl alliance” but controlled the social situation throughout.”

Perhaps striving to follow her idol’s gameplay, Molly was working the Vokai Tribe too well thus making herself a threat even though Jason and Noura were the easy outs this week.

Tom Tracker

Not much to report on Tom’s journey as the only player with sole Canadian citizenship to play the American edition. Lairo was the Immunity Challenge and the majority of the footage was of Chelsea finding the Hidden Immunity Idol and starting a fire. All of Lairo were supporting players this week.

Week 2: Game Fail – Molly Byman

Whether it was their paranoia, their insecurities or the clear threat she posed, Molly’s social game put the fear of the Survivor gods in the other players.

Strategic Gameplay

Apart from surrounding herself with partners or pawns, Molly was taking things easy aiming to take out Noura or Jason.

Rating: 1 / 5

Social Gameplay

This part is a little confusing. Molly’s social game was strong enough to get her targeted so quickly and voted out but it wasn’t strong enough to warn her of the coming blindside.

David Rating: 3 / 5

Entertainment Value

The producers certainly fooled me. I thought she would be going quite far in the game. This makes me think this season might be very chaotic, ending with an unlikely winner. Just as Molly’s story was getting interesting, she was gone.

Week 2: Powell’s Picks

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

Bronze Amateur: Jason Linden

Despite being on the bottom of the totem pole Jason continues to argue and ruffle feathers at Tribal Council.

Silver Amateur: Noura Salman

She has one of the worst social games in Survivor history. The only reason she didn’t get voted out is there was a more viable target.

Gold Amateur: Molly Byman

She should have cast her social net wider to calm the fears of anyone who wasn’t in her core alliance.

Bronze MVPs: Kellee Kim

Even though she was flustered she still held it together to gain some power in the game at the Island of Idols.

Silver MVP: Chelsea Walker

She proved her worth to the tribe at camp and during the challenge. She also pocketed an Idol. Not a bad episode’s work.

Gold MVP: Lauren Beck

She appears to be the one guiding the women’s alliance. Her perceptions about the game and the players appear to be right on the money thus far.
