Survivor 35 Scoop – Week 1 Recap: Winners, Losers, Top Moments

By: John Powell – GobalTV.com
New season. New faces. Survivor Season 35: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers has burst out of the gate with alliances being made, challenges being won and…someone already puking their guts out.
Yech.
With the new season and new faces come the same old mistakes. Do these humanoids never learn?
On the already tumultuous Heroes (Levu) Tribe, The Mom Squad (Katrina Radke and Chrissy Hofbeck) were already considered outsiders because of their age, former-NFLer Alan Ball was letting paranoia get the best of him and JP, Ashley Nolan formed a dangerously transparent alliance.
At the Healers (Soko) Tribe, Mike Zahalsky had already painted a target on his back by publicly looking for the Hidden Immunity Idol, a fact that Joe Mena wasted no time in pointing out.
Polar opposites Ryan Ulrich and Devon Pinto on the Hustlers (Yawa) Tribe formed what could be a game-changing alliance while Patrick Bolton seemed to like the spotlight far too much.
It is far too early to predict where it all will go but there is no doubt Survivor: Heroes v. Healers v. Hustlers has already hit the ground running.

Week 1: Game Fail – Katrina Radke
Katrina was on the outs as soon as she hit the beach. An older mom on a younger tribe, she had to play the deck she was dealt and let’s face it, her cards were utter crap. Could it have been her personality that was the tipping point? We will never know as we didn’t see too many of her interactions at the Levu (Heroes) Tribe. With no information to really go on, Katrina’s only mistake seems to be not clicking with her tribe mates during the first three days.
Strategic Gameplay
Besides seeing her discuss things with her Mom Squad partner Chrissy and gathering with the others to hear Alan out, we didn’t see Katrina do a lot of scheming.
Rating: 1 / 5
Social Gameplay
Since Katrina wasn’t featured much in her first and last episode, all that we know of her social game is that she was close to Chrissy.
Rating: 1 / 5
Entertainment Value
Not much to analyze or comment on. We barely knew anything about Katrina and then…POOF!…she was gone. What would have been? What could have been? We will never know.
Rating: 1 / 5
Overall Rating: 3 / 15
Week 1: Powell’s Picks
Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.
Bronze Amateur: Joe Mena
Only three days into the game, adventure and Joe is already pressuring people? Not a good way to start a sensitive social game.
Silver Amateur: Alan Ball, John Paul “JP” Hilsabeck and Ashley Nolan
What a mess. What a disaster. Alan let his suspicions override his better judgment and Ashley, JP have already marked themselves for the big boot.
Gold Amateur: Katrina Radke
For whatever reason, she just couldn’t and didn’t mesh with the others.
Bronze MVP: Idol, Challenge Surprises
A Super Idol is already in the game and the players had a choice of puzzles at the Immunity Challenge? Brilliant.
Silver MVP: Ryan Ulrich and Devon Pinto
Their quirky partnership could really be one of those Day One alliances that endures.
Gold MVP: Chrissy Hofbeck
My dark horse already. She may have begun at a disadvantage but she could be able to turn things around. Not using the Idol on Katrina, a lost cause and vote, was the perfect way to play that Tribal Council.
