SNL: This Week’s Host Kristen Stewart and Kate McKinnon Thumb War
This weekend on Saturday Night Live, Kristen Stewart returns to thumb-wrestle Kate McKinnon and definitely not say the f-word on live television!
Kristen Stewart is back to host SNL, with musical guest Coldplay! But Stewart has to go through current pack leader Kate McKinnon if she expects the respect that a guest host typically deserves.
Looks like she’s be getting the “thumbs up” from the SNL cast this weekend. Well earned!
As she mentioned, Kristen Stewart has been on the show before. A few times, actually. And it went super well! Except for the f-bomb that she dropped last time.
It was fall 2017, and she was just so stoked (and maybe a bit nervous?) to be there that she used the $47,000 adjective. But apparently she did well enough on the show, and was super pleasant to work with. Because Lorne would have never invited her back if she cost him $47,000 for a slip of the tongue (seriously, the FCC charges broadcasters about that much for cursing on air).
She must have left quite an impression, though: many people have done that (and similar offences) and haven’t been invited back. There’s a long history of guests and cast saying a literal and metaphorical “f you” to the FCC: Julian Casablancas of The Strokes changed the lyrics of Under Cover of Darkness to include the f word on air; Sam Rockwell slipped up just last year in that acted as a log on the rails for the rest of the sketch; Samuel L. Jackson was on and, well, what did you expect? And don’t forget Jenny Slate, who did the same thing her first episode. She didn’t make it to a second season.
But this week’s probably going to be different. Stewart is going to have to watch her mouth; you don’t get a third chance with Lorne Michaels. Unless you’re the Beastie Boys. Or Chevy Chase. Or Chris Parnell.
