The Late Show: Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man Physique Is Pure Rudd
One of Marvel’s Avengers Paul Rudd joined Stephen to talk about what it’s like being Ant-Man, and what it’s like being eternally youthful, on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Paul Rudd is well known for many things: Wet Hot American Summer, Anchorman, Ant-Man, and Clueless. He’s also pretty well known for not aging a bit.
Rudd, as always, avoided giving away his secret to the fountain of youth – it’s often a question he gets asked, and his response is to shirk it like it was the Clueless TV series. But the evidence is right there in that clip of Stephen’s old show Strangers With Candy – that’s Paul Rudd of today’s face. Time traveller? Vampire? Time Travelling Vampire? Perhaps the truth will never be known, and the world will have to accept Paul Rudd appearing in movies, looking the way he does now, for the rest of eternity.
Which means he’ll be Ant-Man in the 23rd sequel to The Avengers. But first, the yet-untitled Avengers 4 is just around the corner – and even sooner is the sequel to his very own Ant-Man! Ant-Man and the Wasp follows up on Rudd’s superhero character from the first film (though it seems very likely that the events in Ant-Man and the Wasp take place before Avengers Infinity War for obvious reasons). But as an actor playing a superhero, there’s an imbalance of physical activity required for each career choice. Basically, it’s tough to be as fit as a superhero. So thank goodness for body suits and visual effects!
Ant-Man’s physique is mostly Rudd, but the bodysuits probably don’t hurt.
Now, here in Canada, there are regulations preventing pharmaceutical companies from airing ads on national broadcast television. That is not that case in the United States, and loyal viewers of even The Late Show with Stephen Colbert are bombarded with advertisements for medicine. This makes Rudd mad. In both senses of the word- mad enough to derail the interview by bringing it up fully unprompted.
Thank goodness for a slightly more moderate capitalism/socialist health care policy up in good ol’ Canada!
