Five-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady made a mark on his Late Show with Stephen Colbert appearance: he gave Stephen a rubdown, chugged a beer and ate his very first strawberry.

As you may already know, Tom Brady played quarterback in the recent Super Bowl LII game – AKA the losing team. Don’t feel bad for Brady, though – he’s won five of them, a record that is shared with no other quarterback. Just hear from him what it feels like to have his Super Bowl win rate diminish from 71% to 63%.

Yeah, this guy is basically the villain from every 1980s teen movie, except that he’s actually pretty likeable. Except for the very typical “we played a good game” generic sports press conference answers. It took a little bit, but Brady eventually got comfortable enough to drop that facade and engage in a more normal style of conversation with Colbert.

Between the high rate of devastating injuries commonly sustained by players and the retaliation over players kneeling during the national anthem, the NFL has had its hands full with controversies over the past little bit. Tom Brady, being one of the NFL’s biggest stars, has refined his opinion on both matters into a very eloquent, yet not divisive, answer. Freedom of expression: good. Debilitating injuries: bad. It’s not a hard stance either way on either subject, but at least he leans toward reasonable.

Late last year, Brady released a book: The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance. It’s all about diet, exercise and that kind of thing. One thing he mentions in his book is the benefits of deep tissue massage. Being a hands-on kind of host, Colbert asks for a demonstration. Things get weird – mostly thanks to the Marvin Gaye sound-alike provided by Stay Human – then things get painful for Colbert. He tries to hide it, but that massage did not feel good.

To close out the interview – a quick beer. A very quick beer. The gauntlet is thrown down, some bragging was done, and Brady and Colbert got themselves locked into a chugging competition. Ever the frat boy, it’s obvious that Brady beat Colbert, considerably.

In a surprising move, Colbert completely avoided the Trump topic. If you’ve followed Brady at all, you might have noticed that A) he is a self-proclaimed friend of Donald Trump, and B) he voted for him in the 2016 presidential election. And he has since stated that he probably shouldn’t be so public about his politics for the next little while.
