The inimitable Lady Gaga made her first appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about her new film A Star Is Born and how she met Bradley Cooper, and to lay the smack down on Brett Kavanaugh.

Lady Gaga – the one and only, you can’t really confuse her for anyone else though, can you – has been a pop idol for over a decade now. Her start, though, wasn’t all the glitz and glam she’s oh-so-known for.

It’s nice to know that the way to stardom isn’t necessarily paved with face glitter and really big, colourful wigs. From dragging her keyboard from club to club, to wearing a dress made entirely of meat at the MTV Music Video Awards, Gaga has come a long way, through five LPs in ten years, an uncountable number of awards to now starring alongside Bradley Cooper in the upcoming film A Star Is Born, also written and directed by Cooper. How did such a pairing come to be – one of the biggest stars in Hollywood and one of the biggest pop stars of the past decade? It’s not really that far fetched – in fact this kind of thing happens pretty often – but still, you’re curious, aren’t you?

And just like that, a movie is made. It seems so easy! But that’s probably because, apparently, Bradley Cooper is just good at everything. He’s already got writing/directing/producing/acting down because A Star Is Born is being hailed by critics, and he is, of course, objectively conventionally attractive, but he also has a good enough singing voice to make Lady Gaga take a moment.

Now, you all know by now that Stephen Colbert kind of likes to talk politics. And he admitted during this interview that he tries to get most of his guests to chime in on politics these days because there’s just so much to talk about. Some refuse, some are game. But boy, was Lady Gaga game. She eloquently communicated some truths that need to be passed on up the chain. Intelligent and with the facts to support her, Gaga slammed down the Brett Kavanaugh situation as hard as it deserves.

There are few guests who are as well-spoken as Gaga was on The Late Show. Hopefully this visit marks the first of many, because she and Stephen have way more politics to talk about.
