Jerrod Carmichael, the self-proclaimed “least famous person to host Saturday Night Live“, has made himself known with a hilarious episode of SNL!

The Slap

Jerrod opened his monologue with a few minutes of waffling over whether or not to talk about “it”. In a special stand-up routine for Saturday Night Live, Carmichael laments over last weekend’s Will Smith/Chris Rock confrontation at the Oscars. Without even naming it, because who doesn’t know. It was expected that he’d talk about it. Lorne requested that he talk about it – citing the nation needs to heal. And Jerrod Carmichael flipped that request on its head and passed the buck up, all the way to the top.

Will Jerrod Carmichael’s pleas to Obama be heard? And will they be honoured? Find out next time on Saturday Night Live!

The Slap… again

So much of Carmichael’s episode of Saturday Night Live was about the Smith/Rock slap. There’s so much to go into about it, that 90 commercial-filled minutes doesn’t seem like enough. Weekend Update focused over half their time on the slap, both joking on it and inviting OJ Simpson (Keenan Thompson) to comment. But ultimately they had to boil it down and not spend seven or eight sketches on the various aspects of it. So they did one – about what it must have been like to be seated next to Smith during the now-infamous moments.

Maybe they’re trying to not flood this show with Will Smith jokes so they can save some for the next few shows. It’s a horse that’s still alive and can take a bit more of a beating.

Tune in to Saturday Night Live next weekend, April 9 at 11.30 et/8.30 pt on Global for a new episode hosted by Jake Gyllenhaal, with musical guest Camila Cabello!
