Back In-Person with Barack Obama

This interview is the first time Colbert’s sat down with a guest in person since March! Needless to say, Colbert was excited. He would have been excited to sit down with anyone. But former President Barack Obama has always been one of his favourite guests. They have a good rapport. So when they first sat down together, they kind of just… let it flow.

And of course, they kept it at a safe distance.

So they shot the breeze before the big main event, shooting the “hoops”. Of course, the big topic in America is still the victory for President-elect Joe Biden. He was Obama’s former VP, you know (in case you’ve never heard Biden speak). And Barack Obama thinks ol’ Fightin’ Joe is going to do a fine job taking over from Donald Trump.

Speaking of Trump, Obama has a lot to say about him. Most of it probably wouldn’t pass the censors at CBS. But as Stephen has mentioned before, he’s done with talking about Trump. He wants to talk about what happens now. There will soon be no more Trump to talk about, but his stain still remains on the American people and the political system. Still, Obama has faith his country can move forward from it.

Trump uncovered what was already there during Obama’s administration. He didn’t create anything, he just allowed the ugliness to come up. There’s a lot of work cut out for Biden and the rest of America if they want to clean up what Trump revealed.

The Main Event: Obama v. Colbert

Stephen Colbert and Barack Obama faced off in a trashcan basketball game. The rules are simple – through crumpled pieces of paper into the waste can from your seat.

Sad to say, it wasn’t much of a competition.

That’s right, Colbert creamed the former Pres. And it was a long time coming, too:

Back in 2016, Colbert and Jon Batiste challenged then-President Obama and Joe Biden to a legit 2-on-2 basketball game. The Presidents never rose up to the challenge. So when Colbert toppled Biden in the trashcan league, that must have been four years of vindication for him.

Tune in to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airing weeknights at 11.35 et/pt on Global, and watch the latest episodes and clips online here on GlobalTV.com or the Global TV App!
