The Late Show with Stephen Colbert welcomed former Today Show host Ann Curry to speak on her experience with Matt Lauer, and conversely, her admiration for Stephen Colbert.

“Who doesn’t have a crush on Steven Colbert,” Ann Curry shouts to the audience, getting them all riled up. She started the interview admitting, actually, volunteering the fact that she has a “baby” crush on him (it’s a baby crush because she’s married – but worry not, her husband has a crush on Colbert too). Colbert, a man who is well known to relish in and fish for compliments from his guests, was uncharacteristically speechless at this revelation.

What an icebreaker, though, because the interview from there on out was as warm and cheery as anything, especially considering Ann Curry and Stephen Colbert hadn’t met before that moment.

Curry has been working in news reporting for a very long time – 40 years, thereabouts. And it wasn’t all fun and games like it is now. She was the only woman among her news team in her very first job, and her boss would remind her that women don’t have the knack for news.

Boy, did she prove whoever that guy is wrong.

Ann Curry has been very outspoken recently in regards to the recent sexual harassment situations – particularly her former co-host at NBC’s Today show, Matt Lauer. She’s said she’s not surprised Lauer turned out to be a creep and a predator, based on her interactions with him and the environment of harassment he created at the Today show. It’s also an open secret that Lauer had Ann Curry forced off of the show – so when he was fired, the “Somewhere Ann Curry” meme took off, with Twitter users starting a tweet with those words and adding a hypothetical way in which Ann Curry is celebrating or gloating over his downfall. But, the class act that she is, Ann Curry didn’t stoop herself to that level.

She’s a tremendous person, and you can see the respect that Colbert has for her – whereas he sometimes dominates interviews to get in his jokes, this time, he was sincerely enchanted by Ann Curry as she spoke. Maybe, it has something to do with the baby crush.
