“Pilot”
Elsbeth stars Emmy® Award winner Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni, an astute but unconventional attorney who uses her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD. After leaving her successful legal career in Chicago to tackle a new investigative role in New York City, Elsbeth finds herself jockeying with the toast of the NYPD, Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce), a charismatic and revered leader. Working alongside Elsbeth is Officer Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson), a stoic and ethical officer who quickly develops an appreciation for Elsbeth’s insightful and offbeat ways. In the premiere, when a college theatre student is mysteriously found dead in her high-rise New York City apartment, Elsbeth immediately suspects foul play and enters a game of wits against the victim’s popular theatre director Alex Modarian (guest star Stephen Moyer) who she believes is involved. Throughout the evolution of the murder investigation, Elsbeth must balance her consent decree role with the NYPD and her uncommon methods to make her case and uncover the real killer.

“Rising Hate: Antisemitism in Canada”
Canada’s Jewish communities are under attack. The number of reported hate crimes spiked significantly in the last three months of 2023 – most of those attacks were antisemitic, targeting Jewish businesses, neighbourhoods, schools, and synagogues. In the first part of this Global News special program, we’ll reveal the scale of the problem in Canada and investigate those responsible for fueling the hate. The Hamas attack on Oct. 7th and the subsequent bombing of Gaza have exposed an ugly underbelly of antisemitism in Canada. But Jewish leaders say this explosion of hatred stems from a long-standing failure of the Canadian government.

“Homicide #42 (Mark Carcasole)”
It was 1 a.m. on a cold, wet November night in 2011 when police found Leanne Freeman lying unconscious in a pool of blood. She later died in a downtown hospital, becoming Toronto’s 42nd homicide of the year. The 23-year-old Freeman lived a lonely, troubled life, on the streets of Canada’s largest city. Addicted to drugs, she ended up being a part of a group called “The Crystal Circle”, named for their use and dealing of crystal meth. It was members of that group who became suspects in her murder.
