A few weeks ago I discussed the value of risk versus reward in Survivor and how to be careful about taking risks when your confidence is at a high. That sense of invulnerability can lead to big blunders. This week Geo proved my point with his actions. As Sami so eloquently said: “It is a funky and crazy way to play the game”.

Yes, Geo’s risk at the meeting paid off. Again, not a risk I would have taken considering there are three tribes comprised of such small numbers and every vote means so much. In that scenario, I would never risk my vote for a chance at winning an advantage. Buoyed by the belief that he was running Coco, Geo shared information about his advantage making him a target and eventually the fifth person voted out of Survivor 43. You can never allow yourself to get that self-assured in the Survivor game where everything can change at a moment’s notice.

And what was Ryan thinking by throwing the challenge? Coco had just gone to tribal council and lost a member, number. His decision also resulted in his closest ally being sent to Ponderosa. That risk was definitely not worth the reward.

I have to say though I wasn’t excited to see the same Beware Advantage play out again and another journey during which players can risk their votes for an advantage. Not sure why the producers decided to use the same challenge for the Beware Advantage instead of coming up with a fresh scenario for viewers. We literally watched the same exact situation play out over and over.

Next week the tribes could be merging or perhaps it is one of those fake mergers in which everyone lives at the same camp for a bit just to jack up the anxiety level. If it is Vesi and Baka once again taking aim at Coco as they did at the immunity challenge they have the nine to four advantage. Those are really tough odds to overcome. If separate tribal loyalties continue on, it is Coco at a distinct disadvantage as right now we have:

Vesi: Cody, Noelle, Jesse and Dwight

Baka: Mike, Owen, Sami, Elie and Jeanine

Coco: Cassidy, Karla, James and Ryan

Karla may be the only one clever enough at Coco to prevent an outright Pagonging or at least save herself until she can find an alliance to join. She had proven herself to be quite the adaptable player so I would place my bets on her figuring out a way to be the Sole Survivor at Coco.

How will the merge player out? Stay tuned folks.

Geo Bustamante

Geo had all the potential to go far in the game. His ego sunk his chances. Even if he had kept his advantage to himself he still might have been sent packing as he and Ryan were clearly at the bottom of the Cock hierarchy. Usually when you think you are in control is when those sharp knives come out…and they did.

Strategic Gameplay

Geo fumbled his own game by trusting the wrong people. Karla as we know is playing both sides and everyone at Coco knew that except for Geo it seems. Geo wasn’t the mastermind he thought he was.

Social Gameplay

Geo’s shadiness gave many at Coco not to trust him. His social game wasn’t good enough to balance the scales in his favour.

Geo was a messy player. That is fun to watch even if we knew his days were numbered at Coco.

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

Letting paranoia take over her game like Lindsay did was not a smart move. It may have hurt her status with her alliance.

Throwing that challenge and getting his closest ally voted off was not the brightest move.

Geo and his ego proved to be a bad combination.

Sami giving Gabler the heads-up may play right into his hands if push comes to shove at Baka. He might be the deciding vote in a civil war.

Jeanine worked that Beware challenge brilliantly.

Once again Karla makes a big, bold move with a little help from her trusted ally James.
