When it comes to inspirational performances Survivor has plenty to choose from over its 22-year history. One that comes immediately to my mind was how one of my all-time favourites – Stephenie LaGrossa – dislocated her shoulder during the first challenge of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains and continued fighting, continued competing.

While she may not have had to fight through a painful injury at the time, Noelle Lambert refusing to give up and winning that reward challenge on Get That Money, Baby was an unforgettably uplifting Survivor moment and is what makes the series so special to so many.

Noelle’s journey has had its highs and its lows but what always came through even during her defeats is her will to never give up and to get back up. The message of Noelle’s story from her horrific accident before Survivor to her Fijian island adventure is it is not how you go down but that you get back up.

Let’s not forget though that Chad Crittenden (Survivor: Vanuatu) was Survivor USA’s first amputee contestant and he was very inspirational as well. He made it to the merge but in the end was a victim of the Vanuatu’s season-long gender war and finished in eighth place.

Although some would say Survivor USA has lost its way over the last 12 years or so, last night’s episode was one of its very best. From the scrambling at camp, to Noelle’s victory to the humour surrounding Jesse’s blindside strategy and the dizziness and card catastrophes during the challenges, Get That Money, Baby reminded me of why I am a life-long Survivor fan and why I have been very fortunate to cover it for all these years.

Okay, enough of the “feels”. Let’s get back to the cutthroat game.

Karla and Jesse dodged not just a bullet but a deadly mortar shell that threatened to blow up their games. Like all the best Survivor players they found a way to flip the odds in their favour and turn the game on their foes. Owen and Sami were left out of the vote though as they wrote down Karla’s name while everyone else voted for Noelle. It appears that this time may be the last time for that pair, especially for Sami whose stock has steadily begun to decrease as the game has approached its final stage. He is publicly known as a “flipper”. So, one wonders how long he has left on the island.

If Cassidy didn’t win immunity the outcome might have been very different as even with Ryan gone a number of people still want to throw her to the sharks. Gabler seeming abandoning his alliance with Cody and Jesse might not be what’s best for his game. It would fit though with his very messy game though. Will he or won’t he?

Stay tuned, folks.

Reader Alert: Due to the Thanksgiving holiday south of the border our interview with Noelle is scheduled for Monday.

Next time on Survivor…

Noelle Lambert

She was a true warrior in every sense of the word…which is why she had to go home. Noelle’s will to win matched Jesse’s mind for the game and for that, even though it broke his heart, he had to push her overboard. If Noelle had gotten to the end of the game she would have one of the best shots at winning the million dollars.

Not only was Noelle no slouch when it came to the challenges but she was a decent strategist as well.

What can be said that hasn’t be said before? She set an amazing example in how she competed in the challenges and also how she treated those around her, even though she was so competitive.

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

Sami’s stock is taking a beating. More and more, he is seen as that dangerous floater.

Jesse and Cody have moved right up the target list.

She was a threat to win the jury vote and try as she might couldn’t shift that target on someone else.

Though things didn’t work out for her she still pushed hard for her target.

Just like last episode Cassidy showed how dangerous she could be.

He pulled off a great blindside…complete with instructions.
