This week on The Late Show, Stephen Colbert gives his all to the long time coming, and long lasting 2020 Presidential election.

An even longer time coming

On Tuesday night, Stephen hosted a live election special episode of The Late Show, where he held Liberal America’s quivering hand as some results came pouring in. As predicted, there was an early red wave. But, unlike 2016, the final results weren’t announced. And unlike 2016, Stephen didn’t have an off-script, on-air breakdown.

But that doesn’t mean he isn’t still incredibly stressed. The man has been on a slow decline into stress and exhaustion over the past four years. He’s been waiting four long years to announce Trump out of office on his show. Unfortunately, he’ll have to wait a little bit longer. But hopefully, not too much longer.

Keeping Donald’s hands off their democracy

As predicted by many pundits, late night show hosts and general observers alike, Trump is making motions to steal the election. The thick irony? Trump’s claiming Joe Biden is doing that – which Biden isn’t – while he’s doing it. It’s really one of those moments where you’re not sure if it’s extreme arrogance or stupidity that’s driving that fire truck away from the fire. But Trump is going to continue to behave as predicted. Which just happens to be like a sniveling child at the thought of not being the most popular guy in the country.

But he’s probably just freaking out because a) it’s just his baseline mode, and b) he’s incredibly impatient. Look, there are two ways to handle having to wait. With dignity, or… like Trump. Biden has been handling it with dignity – despite probably being incredibly agitated over having to wait for the results. And Trump is handling it just as you would expect him to. Without dignity. With the grace of a fire truck driving away from a fire (yes, that metaphor again because it sums up Trump’s approach to politics pretty well and it’s been a long couple days).

And as we all continue to hold our breath as the votes come in and the electoral counts rack up for each candidate, Stephen will be there on The Late Show to ease the anxiety along the way. After all, he’s been there for us these four long years. Why would he quit now?
