Perhaps more than anyone this season, Haley Thogmartin has had a roller coaster ride in the Big Brother house. Unable to gel with many of the houseguests, losing all of her allies and not being able to see eye-to-eye with some of the others, Haley took a lot of heat in the house and also said a lot of things she regrets in that pressure cooker environment.

John Powell: Haley, thanks for taking the time to speak to us today. You’ve had some time to decompress. How are you feeling days?

Haley Thogmartin: I feel good. I feel like last night was the first night that I finally got to sleep a little bit. I’ve been kind of feeling like I’m still in the house a little bit but I’m finally getting into a good routine.

John Powell: Going back to your time in the house, you expressed many times that you didn’t want to be sequestered. You didn’t want to be stuck in the jury with certain people. You missed jury by THAT much. How are you feeling about that?

Haley Thogmartin: Well, I’m somebody that likes to be alone. I talk to my sister for eight hours a day. You know, we both work in the same company, and so we’re always on Face Time. I probably call my mom six times a day, as much as she might not love her ringtone but, you know, they’re both really close to me, too, so it would have been hard. The sequester was hard and I struggled with that. The perks of being home is obviously getting to be with them but I was a part of the show so I would have liked at the end of this to be able to say who won at the end of this. I think that’s the only con that I’m kind of taking out of it.

But, you know, expect the unexpected. I was out on a twist and I’m just so thankful that I was able to be a part of the show.

John Powell: You mentioned the twist and the way you went out. What is your opinion about what happened?

Haley Thogmartin: It’s hard for me to have a bad taste in my mouth with it because it was honestly the most surreal experience. However, it was really hot and wearing the dress was a lot. I think I competed well. I never gave up. You know, I gave it everything I had. It was a long time out there but this was a way for me to fight my way off and there’s going to be games and stuff that you just aren’t always going to win.

I’m kind of tipping my hat to everyone that I played against because they played incredible because those games were really, really hard.

John Powell: You had some people that were in the house making such decisions. They were supposed to be your allies. What went through your mind when Yash comes walking out into the backyard?

Haley Thogmartin: I got blindsided once already, so you know what? I really wasn’t surprised. We had a good game plan up to it but to think that everything is going to be peachy keen and 100 per cent, you really can’t do that. So I was hurt but I wasn’t surprised because they had a lot of time in there to strategize and discuss things. So I wasn’t happy about it but I wasn’t surprised.

John Powell: There are two things: there is the social game and the strategic game. There’s the player and then the person. We saw a lot of your allies go out the door and you’re left there alone. For some reason, especially when you were on the block, you were ostracized a lot. People didn’t get along with you, things like that. What do you make of the whole situation? How did you keep on fighting?

Haley Thogmartin: I still had really good friendships outside of where I kind of felt like I was isolated a little bit. So, I was able to get by. I had really good talks with Devens, with Drew, with Barrett. I did feel like my light was still shining a little bit but I wanted to talk to Angela so bad. Even right after, I wanted to go give her a hug but we ended up mending everything. We had a great conversation.

I was able to talk to Dee, too. Taylor and I also kind of mended fences as well. So, you know, honestly, it just—again, it happened, and you kind of have to take things with a grain of salt.

Everyone is interpreting the game in their own way, personally, physically, mentally and so you have to give grace with that. So whatever had happened, you know, I was still taking it, too but I wanted my friends back, so I was happy that I was able to talk with Dee and Angela again.

John Powell: Any time you get a group of people and you put them together, not everybody’s going to get along. I mean, that’s just a human being fact of life. You mentioned people that you had ups and downs with and one of them was LaLa. In the kitchen, you had a back-and-forth where you just said to her so was a bully to you.

Looking back at that, what do you think? Do you still have the same view of LaLa and what happened? Can you separate the player and the gamer to you?

Haley Thogmartin: So, and I’ve said before I do regret using that word. We didn’t see eye to eye game-wise and that bled to the person. It bled to the personal end. There was just a fine line with us. I would say from Week 2 and so you just never wanted to cross it.

There were just a lot of comments that were made that, again, I couldn’t take and separate personal and game. It was early in the morning. It was a conversation. I regret the conversation. Just trying to brush my teeth but it is something that I do want to apologize for.

John Powell: There was also that back-and-forth with Melody, who actually confessed to you, “Yes, I did say some things about you behind your back,” this, that, and the other thing. You made that part of your HOH, that you wanted to address these things. How do you think you handled it? What do you think of them?

Haley Thogmartin: I regret not making more personal connections. I think once I had a good personal connection with Angela and Chuk and Kamu, I felt good.

I try to keep as much personal to my chest. It takes a lot for me to open up so I’ve always, my entire life, had to act strong and confident. You know, playing all the sports that I did, so there wasn’t room to let your guard down.

The stuff with Melody? I honestly respected her more because she was honest. She didn’t try to say, “No, I didn’t say that.” When you tell me you’re going to put me on the block, I’m like, okay, that makes the most sense because I told Drew that day I wasn’t putting her up.

I was surprised that she had all that to say but again, I respect that, she was honest about it.

There were some personal comments that I made about her that I do regret. That’s out of character for me. It’s something that I will apologize after the show with her.

We did have a conversation in the week I was off the block where I did apologize to her when we were walking in the backyard. I thought we squashed it. I guess I don’t know but at least I tried.
