Sometimes good guys and good gals aren’t made for the cutthroat Brother Big game. Stabbing people in the back, even if part of a reality show or a game just isn’t how they roll. That is a sign of weakness. It is sign of humanity and decency. Some just cannot bring themselves to wallow around in the muck that are reality shows. Chuk Anyanwu seemed like a fish out of water right from the start although he did try to evolve as best that he could.

John Powell: Chuck, it’s wonderful to be talking to you today. All things considered, how are you doing?

Chuk Anyanwu: John, what’s up, man? I’d be a little bit better if I was in the house. No, I’m kidding. I’m great. I’m happy. I’m with my friends. I’m with my family. I’ve had some time to just relax. “You’re not in the house anymore. You can actually do things, right? You’re not just bundled up with people who are trying to lie to you.” And so it has been amazing, John.

John Powell: I’ve talked to a lot of people in the past: Big Brother players, Survivor players. I’ve been covering the series for a long time, and a lot of those people are really good people, like down-to-earth, really nice people. You watch the cutthroat game that they’re playing and there’s just a mismatch because they’re not that kind of person.

And in your case, I’m looking at, “Here’s a really, really nice guy, a really stand-up guy,” and it seems you were stuck in a game where it’s a really cutthroat game. Do you think, looking back, that maybe you were more suited to something like The Amazing Race or something? Again, it’s not a diss or anything. It’s just there are some people that are such decent people that they’re like: “I can’t play this game this way.”

Chuk Anyanwu: I completely agree with you. I mean, John, I have seen the world comments and when I was in the game I remember saying in the house, in the game, I remember saying, “Man, I don’t think I’m cut out for forming all these mini fake alliances,” because I was so loyal to the Red Corner that blew up and I was still just so loyal to what was left of it, right?

I could not form many alliances that were fake because I’m trying to extend my time in the game but that is the game. That’s the name of it, right? You want to form as many mini alliances as you can and deem worthy to get yourself far.

I realized, Chuck, it seems like your minimal watch time of this show, first of all, right? That I take fully, I’m very aware of that. Having minimal watch time is me being able to do that because I just could not not be loyal to just what was left of the Red Corner.

John Powell: The one person you were really loyal to was Haley. You were not only a good ally you were a really good friend to her in there. What drew you to her, and what brought you two together?

Chuk Anyanwu: So, what drew me to her is she wasn’t as bubbly. Well, in terms of not as bubbly, she was just more so, like, she was so honest with me. We had so many honest, genuine conversations to where sometimes, if I felt like I was around other people, I did not feel like those conversations were genuine. I’m someone to where I can’t fake things. I can’t have conversations in the house just to get further. So, she was someone to where she was so genuine and we just had a close connection. I held on to that.

I realized, okay, Chuck, you’re not playing this game like some of these other super fans in this house are doing, as they should. I wanted to hold on to just one sliver of someone who I felt had my best intentions in the house and that’s what I did. I knew my time was short. I knew that my time was coming to an end.

All the people in the house deserve to be in that house. They are piecing up that game. They’re forming alliances. They’re working. They’re doing it. They deserve to be in there. So I knew my time was coming to an end soon and I just wanted to make sure she was okay because I could tell she was going through a hard time in that house. My skin’s a little thicker. I can handle certain things but I did not want her to have the emotional roller coaster that she’s been through.

John Powell: Well, I can say I like her ‘I don’t-give-a-F’ attitude a lot in that house.

Chuk Anyanwu: I love that the most about her. She did not care, and also, I was someone to where I did not care about what people’s perceptions while I was in the house were of me. I literally knew that, hey, I’m not going to be here too long so I’m going to make sure you have a good friend and I refuse to separate from my friend, even if I feel like you’re in a hot seat.

John Powell: One person you had an on-and-off relationship, almost like a bad ex-wife, was Taylor. Here and there she is giving you all sorts of advice that you didn’t ask for, especially about one incident, which we won’t get into but you know what I’m talking about. How do you feel about her and all of that? Because I watched that conversation live as it was playing out and I’m like, “Man, you’re handling this a lot better than I would, Chuck.”

Chuk Anyanwu: I’m someone to where, one, I work a lot in the house, and sometimes you do things to where you’re like, “I’m going to save this for later,” because you’re gonna do X, Y, and Z. So my thing is, I never can get angry at anyone in terms of whenever it’s someone coming at me for whatever reason, even if I feel like they’re being disrespectful or they’re coming from a rude standpoint, which I felt was, you know, disrespectful and rude.

It wasn’t my nature to stand up, get angry, do all that. I can just let them know I’m finding this really annoying and hopefully they understand that I kind of want this conversation to end. I grew up with four sisters so I’ve learned you don’t go back and forth, right? You don’t go back and forth because you’re just going make it prolonged. So, that’s always been me. I’m never gonna go back and forth. I’m going to hear you out. I’m going to tell you, “Hey, I don’t feel like this is productive,” and hopefully that conversation ends.

I’m glad the viewers were able to watch that. They can see, like, hey, some people are really rude and kind of disrespectful in there, and I think, you know, they were able to see that because people, of course are saying, “Oh my God, do you do this and that?” But then you also have the other people like, “That’s so rude and uncalled for.” And so hopefully the viewers are able to see that.

John Powell: You mentioned that you focused on Lala’s game and how confusing it’s been, how emotional at times it’s been. First of all, I like to ask you, like, what do you think about her gameplay? And then Lala as a person, because again, she was kind of the mother of the house, cooking for everybody, this kind of thing.

Chuk Anyanwu: So there is Lala the person, and there’s Lala the game player. And I think people are seeing that too. Lala the person is a mother. She’s the game mother. Lala is the most amazing cook I’ve ever seen in my life. I love Lala, bro! Lala in this house was truly a mother. She’s so fun. She’s just herself and you never want her to change. You literally would tell her, “Lala, please don’t ever change.” Lala the person is amazing and she takes care of her people.

Lala the game player? People saw I voiced my things on Lala the game player and so I want people to know I’m talking about Lala the game player.

Lala the game player is someone who—she’s getting her wheels now.S ince I’ve been out, this girl’s going now! Lala is playing the dang game and I’m: “There we go.”

I was only talking about what I saw and I had to let people know that I’m not in every room. I can only see what I’m seeing with my eyes. You guys are able to see just a little better of a bird’s-eye view. At the moment, I felt like, “Lala, you don’t really talk game with me or, you know, others in the house.” So I’m only going by, “Hey, I felt like you didn’t know what you were doing putting me up on the block.”

Hindsight is 20/20. She was like, “Chuck, I had, like, the top intel from someone in your party.”

So now it’s just crazy seeing things from you guys’ view. Like, you guys were like, “Chuck, no, she’s telling the truth.” I did not know what I didn’t know. And so, how do you know this? How are you putting me up? Are you putting me up just because of Haley? And then Lala the person, bro, freaking amazing! Love the lady! She’s so cool!
