Nothing about this wedding is traditional, which is the reason why people are so enamoured by Prince Harry and Meghan’s love story. Here’s what sets their wedding apart in history:

  • The couple’s decision to wed on a Saturday goes against tradition, as royal weddings usually take place on a weekday. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wed on a Friday and the Queen was married on a Thursday.
  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have invited 2,640 more people onto the grounds of Windsor Castle to watch part of their royal wedding.
  • The couple wants the day “to be shaped so as to allow members of the public to feel part of the celebrations too,” according to a statement from Kensington Palace.

The Dean of Windsor will conduct the service and the Archbishop of Canterbury will officiate the couple as they take their vows. Of course, the ceremony itself will have a more exclusive guest list.

After the wedding,  Harry and Meghan will embark on a carriage procession from the chapel through Windsor town. Once the newly married couple return from the procession, they’ll join their guests from the congregation for a reception at St. George’s Hall.  Afterward, Prince Charles will host a private evening reception for the couple and their close friends and family.
