FAQ

What is the Global TV app?

The Global TV App is a first-of-its-kind TV Everywhere product designed to amplify the viewing experience for cable subscribers by delivering unprecedented live and on demand access to the biggest networks and the most-watched shows anytime, anywhere in one app.

Boasting an all-in-one TV streaming experience, the app delivers the best scripted and unscripted series, blockbuster films, and free, 24/7 access to Global News – the countryʼs first TV app to offer free streams of local and national news and weather from one of Canadaʼs most trusted news organizations.

Is the Global TV app free?

The Global TV App is free to download on iOS, Android, Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV Devices and Samsung Smart TVs.

Can I watch all content without a cable subscription?

The Global TV app offers a variety of select content without requiring a cable provider sign in. All Global TV show episodes are available to watch unlocked for the first seven days after they air. The Global News Live 24/7 Live Streams, Global News broadcast episodes and Global News short form content are always free and unlocked. Some select shows from Specialty Brands like HGTV and Food Network are available to watch without a cable subscription and they will be clearly labeled with a “Limited Free Access” indicator. To Unlock all Global TV episodes and additional networks you will need to sign in with your Cable Provider details.

What other networks and brands are included in the Global TV app and how do I access them?

The Global TV App currently boasts content from Global TV, Global News, Food Network Canada, HGTV Canada, W Network, HISTORY, Showcase, Slice, National Geographic, Adult Swim and Lifetime. Access to each networkʼs library is completely free with a cable subscription to the channel(s). *Available content may vary through participating service providers. Contact your service provider for more details.

Will the Global TV app use my cellular data plan (4G/LTE)

You have the option in “Settings” to restrict playback to WiFi only. If you choose to allow cellular playback you may incur mobile data plan charges

Do I have to sign in every time I open the app?

No! Your first sign-in remains valid for 120 days and will reset for another 120 days every time you open the app. So if you sign in once and come back every week to catch up on your favourite shows, you should not need to sign in again.

How many people in my household can stream on different devices with the same TV provider information?

You can have 3 unique devices streaming on your account at any given time.

Can I use the Global TV app outside of Canada?

No. All content is only licensed for audiences in Canada, so you will not be able to watch video on this app if you are outside of Canada. If you are inside of Canada and getting notified that you are outside of Canada there is likely an issue with your IP address and you should contact your internet provider.

Can I use the Global TV app on a jailbroken device?

No. You will receive error messages if the device has been jailbroken. This is a requirement from the TV studios to ensure the content is protected.

Having issues casting with your Chromecast?

Ensure your Chromecast is connected to the same WiFi network as the device you are casting from. The cast icon will only show up in the Global TV app if both your Chromecast and your device are connected to the same WiFi network. If you are still having issues, unplug the power supply of your Chromecast and turn your TV off and on. This should resolve most connectivity issues.

Still having issues with your Chromecast device?

Visit the official Google Chromecast Help Center: https://support.google.com/chromecast/. If you believe the issue is with the Global TV app and not your Chromecast device, please send us a detailed message via our feedback section outlining the issue and we will investigate.
