Julianna Margulies is the kind of actress that bounces between doing television and film (and she’s been doing it since the 1990s, before it was cool). Maybe because she doesn’t want to be contained to one medium, maybe because she likes to work during hiatuses, but probably because she’s a great actress. Prior to The Good Wife, Julianna Margulies was mostly known for her six-year run, from 1994 to 2000, as nurse Carol Hathaway on TV doctor drama ER – and for her involvement in the most successful aviation related reptile film, the infamous Snakes on a Plane.
But her resume aside, she was a wonderful guest because my goodness, she and Stephen clicked! It was such a delightful interview, between her natural pleasantness and her genuine enthusiasm for The Good Wife (including her extreme excitement over the fact that both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama watch her show), and Stephen’s inviting interview style and quick wit. Julianna Margulies is just so darn watchable, it’s hard to see her in that interview and not think “Yeah, I’d like to hang out with her!” Watch and judge for yourself:
It’s sometimes hard to suss out sincerity on talk shows. Actors make their rounds to promote their projects, and they need to be personable. The good ones can fake it, if they need to. But it’s always apparent when they genuinely are enjoying themselves. Stephen frequently draws that from his guests – he’s just that swell of a guy. But when he doesn’t have to work to get that pure enjoyment from his guests, that makes for a great show. Julianna Margulies was one of those interviews.
Global’s The Good Wife is going into its seventh season as Julianna is working on her ninth Screen Actor’s Guild award – she’s been nominated yet again in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series (which by now is just gravy – she’s already won that particular award five times between her work on The Good Wife and ER), so you know it’ll be a good year.
Be sure to tune in to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert tonight at 11:35 et/pt to see Seth McFarlane and Neil DeGrasse Tyson, on Global!
