Chickens and Moving Targets Have the Survivors All Fired Up | Week 3 Recap: Winners, Losers, Top Moments | Season 38: Edge of Extinction

John Powell –

Once upon a time there was a Survivor tribe. On that tribe was a castaway who injured her ankle. That castaway also stole the tribe’s flint and argued with everyone when it came to eating one of their hens.

Despite all of this, that tribe didn’t vote her off leaving the Survivor gods very puzzled indeed.

Incredibly, Wendy Diaz the impetuous, chaotic rebel and her injured ankle survived this week’s vote all because Chris Underwood misplayed his hand and many on Manu didn’t want their scheme to vote out Kelley Wentworth to be exposed despite Jeff Probst’s best efforts at Tribal Council.

The Manu Tribe did win a reprieve of sorts though. Since they have lost every single challenge but one reward challenge, the tribes are being divided into three new tribes next week before Manu becomes another Ulong Tribe.

Leaving a hurt Wendy (who may or may not get better) in the game will assuredly have an effect on whichever tribe she joins. One wonders if that will have any lasting impact on next week’s tribal shake-up and if the Survivor gods will be appeased. Stay tuned.

Week 3: Game Fail – Chris Underwood

He was told by David Wright and Rick Devens not to tell Dan ‘Wardog’ DaSilva about the plan to target Kelley yet he did so anyway. Sure, Wardog is his best bro out in the jungle so of course he is going to let him in on the scheme. What Chris didn’t know though is his bond with Wardog wasn’t as tight as he thought it was. Wardog actually trusted Kelley way more than him. Chris also didn’t tag David and Rick on the play so instead of them being blamed for targeting Kelley it was him who became Public Enemy No. 1.

Strategic Gameplay

Chris was making all the right moves until tonight’s episode. What he did wrong was he misread the people around him, namely Wardog, David and Rick.

Rating: 2 / 5

Social Gameplay

His position in the Manu Tribe was secure. He was able to conspire with many people however, his assessment of those individual personalities though was off the mark.

Rating: 2 / 5

Entertainment Value

I had thought Chris would do much better than he did. He gave the impression of being one of those measured players who could weave through the twists and turns of the game. He wasn’t ever going to be the centre of drama but he wasn’t going to be a ghost either.

Rating: 2 / 5

Final Castaway Rating: 6 / 15

Week 3: Powell’s Picks

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

Bronze Amateur: Aurora McCreary

She is seen siding with Joe Anglim and Aubry Bracco. Her trust level is low and her game may rely on what new tribe she lands on.

Silver Amateur: Wendy Diaz

She has caused far too much drama with far too many people. Oh yeah, she is injured too.

Gold Amateur: Chris Underwood

He played the entire Kelley situation poorly. He should have at least mentioned David and Rick.

Bronze MVP: Victoria Baamonde

She is proving to be a very dangerous strategic threat.

Silver MVP: Aubry Bracco

She found that idol and her Survivor radar is as accurate as can be.

Gold MVP: David Wright

Although his plan to turf Kelley didn’t play out as he planned, he did smartly avoid being identified as the instigator. He is playing a full-tilt Survivor game.
