Natalie Anderson – Going Solo for the Win

Natalie Anderson – Going Solo for the Win
Natalie Anderson was the sole survivor and winner of Survivor: San Juan del Sur

Third time’s a charm for Sole Survivor Natalie Anderson. After two failed attempts at the million dollar prize on Amazing Race, Natalie and her twin sister Nadiya, came to the Survivor island to win. We barely got to hear her shout the catchphrase, “Twinnie!” before Nadiya was voted out, leaving Natalie to fend for herself amongst the couples on this season.

“I didn’t let the money affect me while I was playing and scare me from doing things I wanted to do in the game.”

Natalie believes that the her Amazing Race experience helped on Survivor, “I think it helped because already being use to cameras and not having the learning curve of getting use to them. And random challenges on call and compete. Having competed on Amazing Race and losing a million bucks twice, there was less pressure on me to win because I had already lost twice and I felt like who cares, if I lose a third time, it is what it is. I didn’t let the money affect me while I was playing and scare me from doing things I wanted to do in the game.”

But after Nadiya was voted out first, it looked like the Amazing Race reputation was working against them, “I knew I would have a target, especially seeing how they treated Nadiya. I just worked my butt of to make sure that target was removed off me. It also worked out for me that Nadya was voted off first because I used that as sympathy credit. It helped me in the long term game.”

As much as she loved her sister, Natalie wouldn’t have thought twice about voting her off, “Me and Nadya would have battled it out like true Twinnie style. We wouldn’t have gone out without a fight because each of us would have wanted to be there but I would have voted her out if it meant me going further and winning.”

Natalie worked with mother/daughter team Missy and Baylor to advance through the game but decided to separate the pair when she blindsided Baylor. Would she have voted out Missy instead of Baylor if Missy didn’t have her foot injury? “No, I wouldn’t have voted her off. If I kept Baylor, I would be exposed for being a good player. Keith was really worried that people would feel bad for Missy and vote her in the finale so she was awesome to keep around so that I could keep the paranoia off me and have people worried about each other.”

The final jury speeches were tough this season, especially from Reed. What was Natalie thinking when she was listening to his wicked stepmother rant? “I was thinking ‘this is so awkward’. Me and Jaclyn just kept looking at each other like is this real life? If I was in Baylor’s position and someone tried to do that to my mom, I would have gotten up and punched him in the face. I don’t care what happens in the game but I am super protective of my friends and family. I hold grudges against people. Being a young girl, it was probably really hard for Baylor to hear that and seeing her cry made me really upset.”

“I can’t believe that it’s the first time that there’s been a Brownie or South East Asian on the show. I tweeted – Slumdog Millionaire, baby!”

Natalie was a charmer and played a very good social game, especially with the guys. Was that her secret weapon? She admits, “I was basically one of the bros with all the guys. I never took offense to that. I was also down with the girls and this worked perfectly for me. The guys felt so comfortable around me that they would tell me everything. Drew was talking about how he wanted to get a guys’ alliance together and he’s talking to me like I’m not a girl.”

Natalie did a fantastic job representing all the ladies, especially the ethnic ladies, “I can’t believe that it’s the first time that there’s been a Brownie or South East Asian on the show. I tweeted – Slumdog Millionaire, baby!”

The community reaction has been mostly positive says Natalie, “Me and Nadiya are use to getting a lot of positive but some negative from Amazing Race. I think me and Nadiya were really liked or really hated. But being on Survivor has turned some of the Twinnie haters into Twinnie lovers.”

Since she is so tight with her sister, what would she choose – a million bucks or a million days on an island with Nadiya? “On this island, is there unlimited food and drink?” she a laughs. After a pause, Natalie says, “I’ll take the million bucks and go on an island vacation with Nadiya.” Enjoy your time together, ladies!
