The Late Show Goes Live With Special Post-Debate Episodes

Next week, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will provide live, post-debate coverage of the first and second Democratic Primary debates.

On June 26 and 27, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will be broadcast live. This is instead of its usual system: they tape the show in the late afternoon, to air that evening, with a bit of edit room trimming in between. So a live show is a great treat. And two live shows back-to-back? Now that’s something special.

Colbert’s no stranger to a good old fashioned live show. He usually puts one on after a big political debate, or a State of the Union address (which is kind of like a one-sided debate the way Trump does them). His live shows are punchy and have that certain special energy that isn’t always there for his pre-taped shows. And if you think that he’s up-to-the-minute with jokes on his regular broadcasts, then tune into the live shows next Wednesday and Thursday (June 26 and 27) at 11.35 et/pt to be astounded!

Joining Stephen on June 26 will be Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez – always a fan favourite – with musical guest Incubus. Other than the debaters themselves, there aren’t many people more suited to guest on this kind of show than Ocasio-Cortez. Plus, we all know she’ll be one of the debaters in four, eight or twelve years anyways.

On June 27 Stephen’s guests will be former New Jersey Governor and would-be fifth Hollywood Chris (if he lived in Hollywood) Chris Christie who people also love to watch (in the same way people love to watch a train wreck) and Carly Zakin & Danielle Weisberg, from the news digest newsletter theSkimm.

But you know who else said they’d be giving live coverage of the debate? Donald Trump, likely tweeting from his solid-gold toilet he had installed in his White House bathroom. So, you know, a usual Wednesday evening for that guy. You better believe that Colbert will be firing right back at the commander-in-chief until his voice is hoarse from that increasingly palatable impression that he does.

Be sure to tune in to The Late Show‘s live broadcasts covering the Democratic primary debates, next Wednesday June 26 and Thursday June 27 11.35 et/pt on Global!
