The Late Show with Stephen Colbert welcomed journalist extraordinaire Rachel Maddow to talk what she’s been waiting years to talk about: the legit Trump impeachment.
Maddow is such a well respected journalist, with The Rachel Maddow Show covering politics for over a decade now on MSNBC. But as Maddow hobbled her way into the Ed Sullivan Theater, everyone first needed to know: how’d she get on crutches?
Then everyone realized they could have done without hearing about that avulsion fracture thing.
It’s been a long, bump, windy, car-sickness inducing road to the 202 elections. But it’s almost here, and we’ll have endured four years of Donald Trump as President. Or will we? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seems to be gaining ground with the impeachment proceedings.
If you haven’t been keeping up, it’s pretty simple. Basically, it’s been revealed that Donald Trump and his highest officials had a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he pressured Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden and his family. There’s a lot more to it than that, but that’s the basics – essentially Trump encouraged foreign interference in the 2020 election. Obviously because that sincerely seemed to work for him last time.
So simple. So, so simple.
One key characteristic of Trump’s administration is his rotating cast of cronies. It seems so long ago that Steve Bannon and Sean Spicer were Trump’s guys. But he used them to take focus off himself and tossed him aside. Now, he has yes-men in Mike Pompeo and Bill Barr, and of course, that little ferret of a former mayor Rudy Giuliani.
And these guys are just as implicated in the who Ukraine thing as Trump is. They were in the room where it happened. And, being Trump’s spineless cronies, they didn’t say boo. And they’re going down for it.
And this Ukraine thing? Isn’t even the half of it. Mind you, it’s a pretty big chunk still. But Rachel Maddow revealed on The Late Show that there is another whistleblower pointing a finger at Donald Trump for further impropriety, this time involving his taxes. But, on a much more serious level than simply not revealing them to the public.
People have been saying for years, every time a new controversy sweeps Trump away, that this time, this controversy is the one that will take him down. And that’s never come to pass.
But with this Ukraine thing… maybe this one?
