John Powell – GobalTV.com

Clowns to the left of you. Jokers to the right. Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Being stuck in the middle isn’t always a bad place to be on Survivor: Game Changers. Sarah Lacina found herself in that spot this week. She had the power to change things, to flip the tribal politics or leave things the same and keep ‘The Six’ alliance (herself, Troyzan, Brad, Sierra, Debbie and Zeke) in power.

Making things ever more confusing and tempting for Sarah is the fact that she found a secret power – Thanks, Michaela! – that allows her to steal someone’s vote at Tribal Council.

A secret power, not being at the top of the alliance and a gaggle of outsiders who are desperate to take any deal offered to them, everything was in place for her to make a big move if she elected to do so and with the final phase of the game on the horizon, everyone is looking to build a resume that will secure that million dollar check.

Did Sarah make the right choice at Tribal Council? Stay tuned, faithful viewers.

Week 8 Game Fail: Debbie Wanner

If we don’t learn from our mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them. Debbie knows that better than anyone. On Survivor: Kaôh Rōng, she let her ego get the better of her and became bossy and boastful. Her actions tanked whatever social game she had cobbled together and the others voted her out without regret.

Not having learned her lesson from her last visit to the island, Debbie returned to her old ways once ‘The Six’ were firmly in control. She became overconfident and that arrogance rubbed people the wrong way.

Strategic Gameplay

Debbie’s main problem is she always overplays her hand. From using her extra vote to take out Ozzy when she didn’t need to, to always leaping head-long into tribal politics, the word subtle is not in Debbie’s vocabulary.

She was always in the thick of things, that’s true but she didn’t seem willing to compromise all that much. Once she had a target, she wasn’t willing to back down. Having conviction in your beliefs is one thing but being unable to evolve with the tribal politics usually means the end of your game in Survivor.

Social Gameplay

While I would say her social game was better this time around, it still wasn’t there for her when she needed it the most. Aubry helped lead the charge against Debbie. Even though she was part of ‘The Six’, Sarah didn’t have any issue turning on Debbie. Even those who worked with her this season didn’t seem to trust her fully and completely as they should.

Rating: 2 / 5

Entertainment Value

Debbie is a massive personality. She doesn’t backpedal, she doesn’t slow down. She charges ahead full throttle seeming to take life by the throat and that has to be admired. She takes all manner of risks not seeming to care at all about the consequences. That type of personality always makes for great television.

Rating: 4.5 / 5

Final Castaway Rating: 9.5 / 15

Week 8: Powell’s Picks

Who played it cool and who proved themselves to be a fool? Every week John Powell makes his picks for the worst and best players of the week.

zeke_mvp

Bronze Amateur: Zeke Smith

His public argument with Andrea didn’t help his already sinking position.

mich_mvp

Silver Amateur: Michaela Bradshaw

She missed the special power and she did further damage to her social game by turning up the attitude, although she did turn things around during the challenge.

debbie_mvp

Gold Amateur: Debbie Wanner

Too brash and too controlling, she made all the same mistakes all over again.

aubry_mvp

Bronze MVP: Aubry Bracco
She saw her spot and she took her shot. It is amazing how many still underestimate her.

cirie_mvp

Silver MVP: Cirie Fields

Refusing to give in and let the obstacle beat her, Cirie not only gave an inspirational performance but she bought some good will.

sarah_mvp

Gold MVP: Sarah Lacina

She not only boldly took the special power for herself but she rolled the dice and gambled big time this week. Not to mention, she put the game aside to help Cirie.
