Beloved movie villain Willem Dafoe hosted Saturday Night Live for this first time this weekend and it was as hyperreal, or psychologically intense and existential or whatever, as you’d expect it to be (for SNL)!
Willem Dafoe didn’t pull any punches on himself during his opening monologue. All his jokes were shots at himself, from the ridiculous faces he makes to how frequently he is compared to a psychopath. And to top it all off, he’s mistaken for the work he’s done and forced to undo years of speech therapy (probably) to bring out his horrid and former Wisconsin accent.
The things celebrities are forced to do for their fans. Why won’t anyone think about how the Willem Dafoes of the world are affected by this needless harassment? It was a pretty terrible accent attempt anyways.
Russian Disinformation Cold Open
With World War III looming on the horizon (which World War III are we up to now? It’s at least the third in the past five years), what better way to deal with the realistic dread than poking fun via dated meme formats? This episode’s cold open has Biden getting the rundown from his staff on how Russia has launched a meme disinformation campaign in Ukraine, and the memes are not dank.
But James Austin Johnson continues to kill it as SNL‘s new resident impressionist. Hopefully he’ll get to pull out his Donald Trump, because out of all of the sketch comics and late night hosts, his is the best.
And Saturday Night Live returns live on February 26 with host… John Mulaney? Again? For the fifth year in a row, he’s back with musical guest LCD Sound System, February 26 at 11.30 et/8.30 pt on Global!
Saturday Night Live can be streamed live and On Demand on the new Global TV App and on STACKTV. Global is also available through all major TV service providers.
