Start your engines! RuPaul is this week’s Saturday Night Live host, and you know it’s going to be one hour-and-a-half long drag show.
RuPaul is a many of many talents and personas – singer, dancer, reality TV host and more. He rose to fame as his drag queen persona of the same name, and of course now hosts one of the most popular reality shows ever, RuPaul’s Drag Race. Not only is it massively successful, but it’s also given the drag community a huge push into the mainstream.
RuPaul Charles (it’s his name, he just usually goes by only his first name like Cher and, uh, Prince?) is going to turn Saturday Night Live into a runway at least once this weekend, because that’s basically what he does. Honestly, he probably doesn’t even know he’s doing it – he just shows up and whoops, half hour later there’s a runway happening.
SNL has flirted with Drag Race before, taking it on in several sketches, but this will be RuPaul’s first appearance on the show. Who knows if he’ll do sketches as RuPaul the man, or RuPaul the drag queen, but hopefully both versions of him have decent screen time! Get stoked for the monologue, because it’s going to be out of this world. Guaranteed.
Backing up RuPaul as musical guest is Justin Bieber. Love him or hate him, he’s an incredible performer, and there are few men who would pair as perfectly with RuPaul as Bieber.
All in all it’s going to be a hell of a show. But what we really need from it is a Trump meets RuPaul sketch – who wouldn’t love to see the administration competing in his Drag Race? Will Alec Baldwin be around this week? If we’re lucky.
