With the long awaited new season of Rookie Blue finally upon us, we asked the fans to send in questions for Peter Mooney via Twitter to ask him all things about playing Officer Nick Collins and what to expect on this new season.
You asked. Peter answered!
@Lambchop99 & @_Limmy_: Are you anything like your character?
Peter: I look a lot like him (*laughs*) but the fun thing about acting is finding the similarities and then finding the differences. I think Nick and I have a similar sense of humour, but in a lot of ways we’re very different.
Once I found out that being an architect didn’t have anything to do with LEGO, I was like “Oh, then I’m out”
@kirstiedrumm: What is your most memorable moment from working on rookie blue?
Peter: Filming the boxing stuff at the top of season 5 was a pretty memorable day for sure.
@lantetrain: What got you interested in acting?
Peter: I wanted to do it from the time I was five years old, it was the only thing I ever wanted to do. Once I found out that being an architect didn’t have anything to do with LEGO, I was like “Oh, then I’m out”. I just wanted to do it from the time I was a kid in Winnipeg, and it was too far ago for me to remember. I was always dead set on it.
I love travelling. And this is going to sound like such an old man, but I love just walking around. I like the pace that you see things at when you’re walking.
@SpikesBigFan: What would you be doing if you weren’t an actor?
Peter: I’d work with LEGO… that’s how far back it goes, that’s the last profession I seriously considered before acting, it was LEGO building.
@mmmelia: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten throughout your career?
Peter: I think the biggest thing is that we’re all in this together. It can sometimes feel competitive with actors but we’re all part of a small community, and once you’ve been working for a while you just work with the same people, you see the same people, so to remember that all those people are your friends makes it a lot more fun.
@Rachie323: What has been your fave storyline so far?
Peter: I love the everything to do with the bomb in the evidence room… What you’ve seen already and what’s still coming.
@StoweYoung: So where does your story line start this season?
Peter: We pick up one month later after the explosion… Lots going on at 15!
@Vbaker22: What’s your favourite thing about filming in Toronto?
Peter: I love filming in Toronto because now that we’ve done it for a few years, I walk by places like St. Lawrence Market with groceries and I’m like “Oh I did a shoot out here”. I’ve all these memories of places in Toronto that are things that Nick has done, things that have happened on the show but they are tied to real places that I see.
@krasito26: What do you most enjoy doing in your free time?
Peter: I love to travel. That’s one of my favourite things, I love travelling. And this is going to sound like such an old man, but I love just walking around. I like the pace that you see things at when you’re walking. I walk around the city… or travel, and then go for a walk, which is just the dream come true.
@ftashlia: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Peter: Do I have to consider the health implications of that? If not, I’d say sushi.
@ShaiBrooklyn: Are you working on any new projects?
Peter: Right now we’re waiting to see about another season (of Rookie Blue), but there’s an indie feature film that I was in and just came out on VoD called “We Were Wolves”, and I’m doing a little arc on a show called “Heroes Reborn”, which is a reboot of the Heroes franchise and will also air on Global.
And what’s in store for his character this season? In addition to getting to know more about Nick’s past, Peter teases us about a new cop at 15 Division that’s going to offer some further complications for Nick’s love life. Who could that be? Get a sneak peek via ET Canada below. And tune in TONIGHT at 9 et/pt for the premiere of Rookie Blue on Global!
