One was an American immigrant who earned fame and fortune escaping water cells and straight jackets, and the other was a Scotsman who wrote stories of the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. Think Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle had nothing in common?
Believe it or not, Houdini and Doyle were friends. And a new series coming to Global on May 2 at 9 et/pt delves into this unlikely friendship – and the era of science, spiritualism and magic in which they lived.
In Houdini & Doyle, the two famous men join forces with New Scotland Yard to tackle the cases that nobody else can solve. Houdini – the master of illusions – is a skeptic who only believes in what he can prove. Doyle – creator of the logical genius Sherlock – is a spiritualist who believes in the paranormal. So when they are faced with strange cases that appear to involve vampires, ghosts, monsters, and poltergeists…whose perspective will prevail?
Add to this dynamic the brilliant and driven Adelaide Stratton, Scotland Yard’s first female police constable (yes, she was a real person too!), and you have a trio of minds that can’t be stopped.
Starring Michael Weston (House) as Houdini, Stephen Mangan (Episodes) as Doyle, and Canadian Rebecca Liddiard (MsLabelled) as Adelaide Stratton, Houdini & Doyle is created by Canadians David Hoselton (House, Chicago P.D.), and David Titcher (The Librarians), with Canadian acclaimed Executive Producer David Shore (House). This brand new series will draw you into a world of wonders, where science and the spirit world collide, and nothing is what it seems.
Houdini & Doyle premieres Monday May 2 at 9et/pt on Global – and if you miss it on TV, you can catch it on GlobalTV.com or the Global GO app the next day.
