Back in December, Bones left us hanging with the birth of Sweets and Daisy’s son, the Aubrey-Booth team-up, and the ongoing evolution of Brennan and Booth’s marriage.
The 1950s Hitchcock-themed 200th episode was amazing – especially since it was directed by David Boreanaz, AKA Booth! – but even that didn’t distract us from the major questions of the central plotlines.
Now, after a torturous 3-month hiatus, Bones is back with the highly-anticipated second half of Season 10! In a phone call earlier this week, GlobalTV.com and other media outlets had the chance to chat with Bones star Emily Deschanel, and executive producer Stephen Nathan. Read on for 5 tidbits of fan-essential info from Emily and Stephen – things you’ll definitely want to know before you tune in on Thursday, March 26 at 8 et/pt!
On Agent Aubrey
Yes, junior FBI Agent James Aubrey (played by John Boyd) will be Booth’s new partner! As Stephen Nathan tells us, “John Boyd is a wonderful, fabulous actor and a terrific guy. [Aubrey] is very different than anyone we’ve ever had in that position [as Booth’s partner] because he’s not intimidated by Booth. He’s respectful, but he’s not intimidated. Plus, he’s odd – he’s not apologetic about his eccentricities!”
On upcoming guest stars
“Linda Lavin … emailed recently about a bone question – she sent me x-rays!”
It’s no secret that Cyndi Lauper will be reprising her role as psychic Avalon Harmonia. She’ll be back in the March 26th premiere episode, “The Psychic in the Soup”. But what is it like to work with the music legend, and what other guest stars does Bones have in store? Emily Deschanel dishes: “Cyndi Lauper is a dream come true. I’ve always been a huge fan. She’s such an interesting, eccentric, lovely, talented person. She’s so much fun. We love having her on the show – I’d have her all the time if we could!” As for upcoming guest stars, Emily tells us, “[Classic TV star] Linda Lavin was particularly fun to have on in one of the upcoming episodes. Maybe I shouldn’t tell this story, but… she emailed me recently about a bone question – She sent me x-rays!”
On Season 10 villains
“…someone resurfaces from beyond the grave, and will come back to alter everybody’s life yet again…”
The past nine-and-half seasons of Bones have featured some pretty nasty characters, both one-off killers and season-long “Big Bads”. So what can we expect in terms of villains in this half of Season 10? Stephen Nathan tells us, “[there will be] more than one villain. An interesting new serial killer will appear – and it won’t be resolved until someone is on death row, about to be executed! And at the end of the season, someone resurfaces from beyond the grave, and will come back to alter everybody’s life yet again…”
On those pesky pregnancy rumours
It’s been heavily rumoured that Emily Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy will mean a second child for Brennan and Booth on Bones. Stephen tell us that Brennan and Booth now have a very different attitude towards having children than they did when Christine was born: “[Brennan] knows the tremendous risks that her and Booth’s jobs have – she is going to deal with that.” Emily agrees: “Yeah, they’ve had their house blown up!” It sounds like if indeed there is another pregnancy on Bones, it could be one full of emotional complications and big questions for both Brennan and Booth.
On Booth and Brennan’s marriage
“Booth’s [actions] will affect everyone. The ripples go out from that.”
Brennan and Booth have been in a relationship since Season 6, and married since Season 9. They’ve been through everything together – good and bad – but what new challenges will they face in the upcoming episodes of Season 10? Stephen hints that Booth’s gambling addiction could resurface, causing tensions that the couple – and everyone in their lives – will have to deal with. As Stephen told us, “Booth’s [actions] will affect everyone. The ripples go out from that.”
It sounds like the second half of Season 10 will be a whirlwind! And if you have any doubt that Bones is worth returning to, Executive Producer Stephen Nathan has a promise for you:
“You will not be disappointed by the second half of the season! We’re going from death row, to miniature golf, to Tehran, to yoga studios… I would strongly recommend you get a seat on this bus!”
…Can you argue with that?
