This week, we got to see David Tom reprise his role of Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless after 12 years.“It’s been absolutely wonderful,” David said in an interview with Global TV. “I’ve been welcome with open arms from everybody, from the cast and the crew. Working with Jess Walton and Peter Bergman and some of the other actors and actresses, some of the people I wasn’t able to work with before on the show before, you know, Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott, it’s just been amazing.”Tom took back the Abbott helm after Billy Miller was unable to reach a contract deal. Miller’s departure came in the middle of a heart wrenching storyline, where he was dealing with the death of the character’s daughter, Delia, at the hands of Adam Newman, played by Michael Muhney, who left the show in December. “The storyline we’ve been working on is just incredible,” David said.“It’s an actor’s dream to sink his teeth into a real meaty storyline right from the beginning, dealing with the death of his daughter and having to deal with those issues with his wife, Victoria, and Kelly. There’s some great scenes coming up with a Valentine event that the entire cast is a part of.”David’s sister Heather Tom, a Y&R alum who is now on The Bold and the Beautiful, said she is happy to be working closely with her brother again. “[David’s] right across the hall, and I’m thrilled that he’s there!” In 1991 Heather began playing the role of Victoria Newman at 16. Eight years later David joined the Y&R cast when he was 21. Heather credits their mother for their early success. “Well we had a very determined mother,” Heather said. “[She] got us into commercials and modelling when we were kids and came to Los Angeles when David was 10 and I was 12. We came for three weeks and just never went home.” “The business has had to change and adapt,” said Heather speaking to the evolution of Y&R. “I would say that we move even faster than we did 20 years ago. But I think over all that it’s amazing. The great thing about both of our sets is that our crew is very much the same, our actors are very much the same, we don’t have a lot of turnover when it comes to that. So it does feel like a very well oiled machine that just works!”David said he felt right at home returning to the show. “The moment I walked on set it felt the same way it was back then. There are changes of course, and things have gotten a lot faster, the amount of scene you get is a lot more, but it’s wonderful.” _______When is The Young and the Restless on TV?
