Michael Muhney abruptly fired from Y&R Dec 19 2013, 04:30 PM by Aaron Hagey-MacKay Image by Getty UPDATE: alleged reason for Michael Muhney Y&R firing revealed Leading man Michael Muhney was abruptly let go from The Young and the Restless earlier this week, while admitting that he may be at fault.Muhney, who plays Adam Newman on the long-running soap, took to Twitter to break the news."I’m so sorry," Muhney wrote. "It breaks my heart to say this, but I was just let go from Y&R. My last day on set is this Thursday.""My last air date will be Jan 30th. I'm going to take some private time with my wife and kids, as I am most concerned for their well-being.""I have three final episodes to film, and because they are my last, I will be giving it everything I have. More details will follow."(In Canada, Muhney's last air date will be January 29th)News of the sacking was a huge shock for fans, with some threatening to stop watching the show.Executive producer Jill Farren Phelps called him into her office and they had an "intimate conversation", Muhney told the Huffington Post.Muhney implied his firing may have been related to off-screen conflict with others on the set, including Eric Braeden, who plays Victor Newman."Part of me feels this is because I've always been outspoken, and sometimes I've been too outspoken. Sometimes I've walked around with a big backpack full of hubris. That is entirely on me," Muhney told the Post's Nelson Branco."If there were disagreements in the past with Eric, for me, it has to be history."Meanwhile Muhney said he is going to focus on his family."I've done a lot of pilots and projects which never made it in my career, but being let go is a first for me with multiple children. Back when I wasn't a father, it was much easier to move from job to job.""Ironically, my greatest acting performance is the one that will never be seen: and that is the strength I display in front of my kids when things get tough. I'm their leader and they're going to have a great Christmas if I have anything to say about it. Yes, I was let go before Christmas, but I choose to look at it positively: My kids are off school for holiday break, so I will have lots of time to spend with them, I'm going to soak up their innocent love. That's my focus now," Muhney said. The character of Adam will be taking a break for a few months, but will be recast soon.Billy Miller, who plays Billy Abbott on the show, is also leaving his role near the end of the month. Why do you think Phelps fired him now?
