It seems DAYS is in for some major cast shakeups in the next few months. Soap Opera Digest was the first to announce the departures of Sarah Joy Brown (Madison James), Matthew Ashford (Jack Deveraux), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady Reed) and Patrick Muldoon (Austin Reed) as the new writing regime prepares to take over. While this news comes as a complete shock, it is important to note that this is still unconfirmed by the show and by the networks who own the show, Sony Pictures and NBC. News of the cast departures spread like wildfire as the actors themselves took to social media to address the rumours. Brown who first appeared on the show in October 2011 took to Twitter to vent over the way the situation is being handled.“Don’t know if it’s true, but, who ever leaked that story should consider that no one wants to find out they have lost their job via twitter.” She later added “Ken Corday and Greg Meng are class, they would not do that to us. Wasn’t them who leaked it, & didn’t hear it first on Twitter. Who leaked?” Her statements insinuate that she knew of her possible fate on the show before the twitter leak. Ashford posted a note to his fans on Facebook addressing the situation. His statement says “As you’ve probably heard, the news came out today that my character (and I) will be leaving the show. That’s the way it goes in this business…as always thank you to everyone for your support.”Patrick Muldoon said on Twitter “To clean it up, me and Christie leaving for now not Shawn, G, and Ari.” This statement leaves hope for a possible return of the fan-favourite couple in the future. Christie Clark also addressed the rumours via Twitter, saying “Thank u for the kind messages. And Candace thanks for the gorgeous flowers. We’ve had an absolute ball!”This is not the first time actors from various soap operas were told they were being let-go via Twitter before being formally told by the show and the network. In a recent interview, DAYS Executive producer addressed some of the shows upcoming changes but was very vague saying “We’re looking at weaving people in and out, and bringing them back later if we can.”We’ll keep you updated as more information surfaces. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on these possible departures? Anyone specific you are sad to see leave?
