What is the Global Video app?
Global Video is an exciting video app created for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices. Watch full-length episodes and clips for all your favourite Global shows like House, Survivor, Hawaii Five-0, Glee, Family Guy, and more! And now with the launch of the companion experience, you can play along with Survivor: One World using your device!
What is a companion experience?
A companion experience is a new, immersive way to watch television. Global viewers with an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch can participate in real-time, engaging content during the broadcast – synching up the TV experience with a tablet or mobile device. What is the in-app video content offering?
The content offering mirrors that of Global's online offering (GlobalTV.com), with a few exceptions determined by licensing agreements. The length to which online content can remain in the app is governed by different licensing agreements.
Video is playing but I hear no audio. Why?
Check that the mute button on the side of the device is not selected.
The video quality is pixelated at times. Why?
The Global Video app (and indeed, GlobalTV.com) uses "adaptive streaming", an innovative technique that ensures the quality of video is commensurate with the strength of your Internet signal. This way, even those using devices with weak signals are able to enjoy the content. Should the video appear grainy/pixelated, it is likely due to the strength of your device's Internet signal.
Are there plans to roll out similar apps for other Shaw brands?
Apps will be developed wherever deemed strategically important to grow our audience and increase awareness of our brands.
Are there any costs associated with the Global Video app?
The Global Video app is free to download and use. When outside a Wi-Fi area, your device might access data through a 3G cellular network, which may incur data costs - particularly when roaming. Verify with your cellular provider how you will be charged for data usage for streaming video on cellular networks.
Can I download shows and store them on my device?
No. You can only stream content while connected to the Internet. There is no option to save or store content locally on the device.
Can I use the Global Video app outside of Canada?
You will not be able to watch video outside Canada on this device as the content is only licensed for audiences in Canada.
What is the grey striped bar above the video clips?
This indicates how much of the clip you have watched on your device. Should you be interrupted during an episode, this feature determines where you left off in the video stream and allows you to resume viewing.
Does the Global Video app include advertisements?
The app includes sponsorship integration, which may appear on the startup screen (while the application loads) and as a small icon on the left side of the control tab bar.
The app includes video advertisements which may play before, during, and after video playback.
Which devices does the Global Video app work on?
iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch devices running iOS 4.3 or newer.
How do I download the Global Video app?

Will there be changes to the Global Video app in the future?
Yes. We are constantly innovating our mobile product offering in an effort to provide the most user-friendly and feature-rich experience. Please expect further enhancements to the product and a continuous injection of exciting new shows.
Why am I hearing audio only with no video imagery?
In low connectivity areas the device transfers playback to an audio-only version of the show file. If you are on a 3G network, please try connecting to a stronger Wi-Fi connection to resume video playback. If you are connected to a Wi-Fi network but out of range, please reorient yourself to obtain a stronger connection.
How long is content available within the Global Video app?
Content is governed by different licensing agreements. As with our website, content typically expires after about 17 days. Please note that, for US-based shows, we currently do not have rights to run repeat episodes.
Is the content within the app the same as on your website?
You can enjoy almost all the full episodes and exclusive content currently residing on GlobalTV.com - now on your mobile device! The few exceptions are determined by licensing agreements.
How do I get the Survivor companion experience?
The companion experience is the newest feature of the free Global Video universal app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, currently available in the iTunes App Store. If you already have the Global Video app installed on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch, you can update the latest release with the companion feature directly from your device. If you don’t have the app, you can download the Global Video app – which includes the companion experience – directly from the iTunes App Store.
How does the app work?
The app can detect when you are watching Survivor on Global Television – either live or via recorded playback (PVR). During the show, you can compete with other fans across the country in real-time content such as trivia, polls and social experiences. New content consistently rolls out on the app during each new episode. All you need to do is watch and play.
How do I start?
1. Tap “Survivor” button in tab bar or rotator
2. App prompts user to sign in to Game Center
3. Sign in to Game Center
4. Select a tribe
5. Press Start button
6. Press Play Now
7. Enjoy the content and have fun! You can swipe backwards to review slides if you wish
8. View your individual and team Results at the end of the episode
9. At any time, use left panel navigation “Twitter Discussion” to share your experience on Twitter
What type of content is on the companion experience?
The companion content includes real-time trivia, polls, fun facts and a deep Twitter integration. There will also be show-specific bios, interactive weekly predictions, a game and more.
There is also a large gaming component to the companion experience. Points are awarded for almost every interaction. These points go toward unlocking virtual achievements and rewards over the duration of the series and move you higher up the overall points leaderboard. The app is integrated with Apple’s Game Center product for this purpose. With Game Center, users can see how they stack up against all of the other players, their friends and groups.
Will I still be able to watch full episodes on the Global Video app?
Absolutely! The companion experience is a new additional feature of the Global Video app. Your favourite Global shows are still available to stream on the app just like before.
