Saturday Night Lives returns this Saturday at 11.30 et/pt for a brand new season. Looking for a reason to tune-in? We've got five.
#5 - Jay Pharoah's Obama Impersonation
SNL fan favourite Fred Armisen has been tackling the all-important Obama impersonation on SNL since 2008. This upcoming season, the torch will be passed to relative SNL newcomer Jay Pharoah. Pharoah's impersonation will be watched closely by SNL aficionados, and judging by the snippets of his impersonation available on a certain video sharing website, it doesn't seem like Pharoah will be letting any SNL fans down.
#4 - New Cast Members
While some fans may still be mourning the loss of Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg from the SNL cast, others may feel encouraged to remember that both Wiig and Samberg - as well as every other classic SNL personality - were once SNL newbies themselves. Every off-season of SNL, creator and producer Lorne Michaels visits comedy clubs across the continent looking for new and exciting talent to bring to the show. Keeping with this tradition, three brand new cast members will be joining SNL this season. Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson and Cecily Strong all hail from the Second City in Chicago and will be making their live television debut this Saturday.
#3 - Seth MacFarlane
In a recent interview, Seth MacFarlane was asked why he agreed to make his standup comedy debut hosting the season premiere of SNL on Saturday. MacFalane's answer was directly on point: because SNL asked him to. While Seth MacFarlane is anything but a stranger to comedy, his appearance on SNL will mark the creator of Family Guy and American Dad's first experience attempting to make people laugh live on the air. Will he be able to pull it off?
#2 - Frank Ocean
Full disclosure: I'm a big Frank Ocean fan. With that, all I have to say is that I'm really looking forward to GQ's Rookie of the Year being this season's first musical guest. Sweet life, sweet life. Sweet life, sweet life...
#1 - New Episodes of Global TV's Favourite Animated Shows won't Return until September 30
Global TV's animated lineup doesn't return with new episodes until September 30th. Until then, at least there is Seth MacFarlane's appearance on SNL to hold us all over. SNL is notorious for poking fun at its hosts and using them as skit fodder - with MacFarlane's pedigree in comedy, the results of mixing SNL and Family Guy-brand humour are bound to be interesting.
